Sam Darnold will grab the headlines, but let's not forget about Todd Bowles. He outcoached rookie Matt Patricia, who shamed the Belichick coaching tree with an absolutely terrible performance. The Jets were prepared, mentally and mentally. They befuddled QB Matthew Stafford with their defensive schemes. Heck, they even outplayed them on special teams, usually a Jets weakness. They embarrassed the Lions with a rookie quarterback who gifted them a pick-6 on the first play. This was Bowles at his best.

Todd Bowles is now a member of the 50 Club — one of seven Jets head coaches who reached the 50-game mark. How he stacks up after 50 regular-season games: Herm Edwards (27-23, 1-2 playoffs), Rex Ryan (26-24, 4-2), Joe Walton (26-24, 0-1), Todd Bowles (21-29, 0-0), Bruce Coslet (19-31, 0-1), Walt Michaels (19-31, 0-0), Weeb Ewbank (19-27-4, 0-0)

The embattled Todd Bowles is the first coach in Jets history to have three straight nine-loss seasons. Asked if this job has been a bigger challenge than he anticipated, he said: "No, it's normal. It's a coaching job." He added: "I anticipated a lot of things in my life that didn't go quite as planned, but that doesn't make it any more challenging than the next job."
