Aaron Wilson, of the Carroll County Times, reports the New York Jets will have a pre-draft visit with Cal-Poly DE Chris Gocong next week.

Scouts Grade: 59

Strengths: Possesses excellent instincts, does a great job of anticipating the snap and has the initial quickness to shoot gaps. Has good recognition skills and locates the ball carrier quickly. Takes good pursuit angles, does a good job of closing down cutback lanes and always seems to be around the ball at the end of the play. Plays with a mean streak and is a powerful open field tackler that generally wraps up upon contact. Accelerates well and flashes the ability to turn the corner when rushing the passer. Shows good balance, has the lateral mobility to redirect inside after starting outside and runs lines stunts well.

Weaknesses: Is undersized, gets engulfed at the point of attack and is vulnerable to wearing down if asked to play an every-down role. Lacks ideal upper body strength, doesn't use hands well and takes too long to shed blocks when does get reached. Doesn't have great lower body strength and isn't a powerful bull rusher that can consistently collapse the pocket. Lacks elite top-end speed and will have problems turning the corner when doesn't anticipate the snap well. Played at a small school and there is some concern about ability to adjust to a substantially higher level of competition.

Overall: Gocong played in six games during his true freshman season in 2001 and Cal Poly State red-shirted him during the 2002 season. He started eleven games at nose tackle during the 2003 season. Gocong started eleven games at defensive end during the 2004 season and he finished with 17.5 sacks that year. He started twelve of the thirteen games he appeared in during the 2005 season. He recorded 31 tackles-for-loss, 23.5 sacks and four forced-fumbles during his senior season. A versatile defensive lineman that played end and tackle in college, Gocong led the DI-AA ranks in sacks as a senior in 2005. Gocong will obviously be forced to make a huge transition in the NFL and he does not have the size to continue to play inside, but he showed the speed (4.7 seconds in the forty) and overall athleticism (38

Cocong was arguably the best D II player this year. He is one of the top sleepers in the draft and could make for a superb pass rushing OLB.
