Tonight was the one pitching matchup that went the Yankees' way. Even as bad as they've been calling a June 1st game a "must win" is usually ridiculous; but not tonight. The division may be done, but a sweep would end much of a chance for a postseason berth. Simply a good win.

I agree. So I dont blame Mattingly for going to Mo. Esp considering Villone looks like crap and Vizcaino is the tp.

Guys....Torre was still MAKING ALL THE DECISIONS from the clubhouse. You really think Mattingly was running the team?

What a decline by Piniero, started as a starter for the Mariners, came to Boston with a shot at the closing spot, and lost it and now is a 18 game appearing relief pitcher.

Not exactly his fault.

He was signed to be a potential closer when Papelbon was supposed to start. We know what happened there. Maybe they hoped for a Flash Gordon/Eckersely type resurgence. A so-so starter but good to great closer.
