What to love about Mangini

WHY ALL JETS FANS SHOULD KEEP THE FAITH!!!

Our coach has a pedigree which includes winning, values, character, and he sticks by his principles. Despite all the negative press right now, and all the positive press last year, he doesn't change. He is very positive and serious, but still finds ways to make jokes and keep the team together. Character will keep this team together and when the JETS start winning, whether later this year or in coming years, it will keep us winning and together. It is a good thing he does not give in to making emotional outbursts, or desperate responses to the media. He is a good man, who will always do what he believes is right and stick with it. He isn't going to make decisions rashly. Behaving that way does sometimes get people 'fired up' in the short term, but does not lend itself to long term success - see Bill Belichek! In that regard...

...The best comparisons as a coach and person to Eric Mangini are a combination of Tony Dungee and Bill Belichek (for me). And Tony Dungee is mentioned here, because up until this last year, one could have argued that 'nice guys just don't win.'

We are still missing several important pieces of talent on the D-line and O-line, as well as the quaterback position....All of which will be filled soon enough - SEE THIS COMING OFFSEASON. But for the forty years of suffering Jets fans have endured, this coach should have at least 5 years to see what he is made of.

Two final shots:

1.) Never forget Belichek's 'failure' with the Browns. Wouldn't they have loved to have retained him!!

2.) Herm's successes as a Jet Coach are largely a joke, because he inherited the majority of his team from Parcells. Mangini has to make many more upgrades and changes than Herm had to. And it is generally more difficult to change from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

PS - Cotchery is going to be in the NFL Hall Of Fame someday!

I agree...

The signing of Mangini was the official end of the Parcells/Groh/Herm era (aka the 'bandaid approach' era) and the beginning of a completely restructured team and identity for the Jets.

We knew that nobody can accomplish such a task in a matter of a year or two...Hence, a four year (i believe) contract was given to him.

If by the end of those 4 years, we're the same team we were when we first hired him...

Thats when we can fairly call his tenure a failure.

How has he re-structured the team?

ecurb, what are you talking about? He has changed the defense and offense completely. He brought in two completely different systems. AND his attitude is the most steady and methodical I have ever seen as a Jet fan. He deals with the New York Media very evenly. He refuses to change who he is or get riled up. The entire essence of Mangini is something none of us are used to. Just his presence here is a restructuring of the entire organization. Even the way he has handled free agency is very paced and methodical. He refuses to 'band-aid' problems and sticks with the correct approach. The biggest difference between Mangini and Herm (and most other coaches) is that Mangini elminates most of the human error, ie penalties, clock mismanagement, etc - see Herm Edward's entire career OR the Seahawks versus the Steelers in the Super Bowl!

Once he builds the physical team of players that he ideally wants, then we will all see the fruits.

Ummm...

Did you read my post at all?

"WE KNEW THAT ACCOMPLISHING THIS TASK WOULD TAKE MORE THAN A YEAR OR TWO."

Is it completely restructured as of yet, no, not really.

Still,

The first moves Tangini made were:

Cut Mawae, Fabini, and Law

and trade Abraham for draft picks.

We got DBrick, Mangold, Leon, Smith, and Clemens (havent used him yet though) in last years draft and Revis (the #1 CB right now) and Harris (splitting time W/ Barton) in this years draft.

So thats 6 draft picks in two years that have been/will be a big part of our team moving forward.

Also, he traded for TJ, signed Dyson, and revived the careers of Cotch and BThomas, both former scrubs.

So even though the process isnt even close to done yet, it is well underway.
