Gainzo
There is nothing on TV tonight so I turn on ESPN to watch the Phillies/Cards game. Unfortunately there is a rain delay so ESPN goes to "Bonus Coverage" with the Nats/DBacks game. I swear there are less the 12,000 people in Washington tonight. Has anyone ever seen a team that has lost attendance when opening a new Stadium? They should have kept the team in Montreal.
124
Washington is a football town and the team is still very new and hasn't produced a winning team yet. They also have to compete with the Orioles who have played somewhat well this year. Either in Montreal or Washington the franchise is a joke. Lil Bit Special
not only does their attendance suck, but no one is watching on TV. They average 9,000 people per game.

Lil Bit wasn't fooling when he said that the Nationals only get 9,000 per game on TV to watch them. What does the Orioles having 10 straight losing seasons have to do with anything? They've been around in the area for a long, long time, therefore they have generations of diehard fans and have played better this year than they have in a while. I'm not surprised. Why would anyone jump onto the Nationals bandwagon when they didn't do anything in Montreal either? One year with talent they let go in the early 90's was all. But anyway, that list shows you all you need to know about the Washington/Maryland area. Its FOOTBALL. Washington is the least most watched team and Baltimore the 3rd least watched team. I cant find any info on local ratings for football, so I cant make a comparison, but in the original article I read they said that the skins do well on tv

Basketball in the DC area? Heck I wouldn't waste my time with it either. Gilbert Arenas is over-rated and the team can't get out of the 1st round. Hockey finally got exciting again down their with "Alexander The Great".

Look at NY- 93% of the households are not watching baseball. 93% Yet everyone is either a yankee or mets fan.... and boston- 90% of the people arent watching baseball. They get 40,000 in the ballpark and only another 233,000 watching on TV. I guess I always imagined sports were a bigger draw on local tv.

This team, when they were in Montreal, was rumoured to be heading to Buffalo. When Buffalo built the new AAA stadium they even designed it so it could be expanded for MLB. With Buffalo's decreasing population and lack of economic growth the move would would have been a disaster, even worse than the DC move.

By numbers, the Yankees have the most people watching. Problem is, NYC is the biggest city in the world and thats why they'll fall short of the percentage of the city. Lots more bars, people, things to do instead of watching a meaningless June game, what have you.
