Jets save approximately $10 million in cap space- With the release of Kris Jenkins, Damien Woody, Vernon Gholston, and Jason Taylor the Jets will be saving approximately $10 million dollars in cap space.  This is a considerable amount of money considering all of the pending free agents that the Jets have on their roster.  According to some reports last night there is a chance that Gang Green will re-sign a couple of these guys to a more cap friendly deal.  I am hoping that Damien Woody is one of those guys as second year player Vlad Ducasse is not ready to start, and Wayne Hunter is scheduled to become a free agent.

Note: The Jets are reportedly working on a new deal with Hunter.  In addition offensive lineman Rob Turner will receive a low restricted free agent tender that will not include draft compensation.

Damien Woody offered the following comments on Twitter last night:

“Just informed about my release….I want to thank the Jets and all the fans out there…it was a great ride!”

“Damn….Jet fans are the best!!! The most passionate fans out there! #muchlove”

“@DUSTINKELLER81 we’ll see homie…u know I love it here”  (in response to Dustin Keller hoping that Woody can restructure and come back)

Coaches to face pay cuts? According to the Star Ledger the New York Jets are planning to reduce the salaries in the football operations department (approx 62 employees) if there is a lockout.  The report states that Gang Green will cut the pay of the assistant coaches by 25%, and if the lockout lasts longer than 90 days, the cut could go up to 50%.  The Jets will reportedly reimburse this money as long as a new CBA is in place and no preseason games are missed.

As of this report the New York Giants have stated that they will not be cutting the pay of any of their employees.

Giants not cutting pay.

Jets cutting pay.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The NYGIANTS didnt just recently build a multi-million dollar practice facility either. Im not for any employee give backs in any job. Just sayin.....

One's first class, the other's, you know, uh, er, not.

I totally disagree with that statement.

Do the NYGIANTS employ the same number of employees? Did the NYGIANTS just build a multi-million dollar practice facility?

Im against any employee cuts, givebacks, furloughs etc. But im not writing the check here either. The NYJETS arent the only team doing this. ESPN mentioned 15 other teams doing the same thing.

This has nothing to do with class.

I am pretty sure the Giants just built a new mult-million dollar practice facility as well.

This is probably the only real football info in the article. He's an excellent backup, the only other guy on the team able to snap. He does the dirty work on special teams, plays DT on short yardage and they ******* low tender him? Why? Is he too small to start in the NFL? Do they get matching rights? How low is the low tender? I guess they don't want to pay real money for a backup.

Don't fret. They protected Eric Smith with a 3rd Rd tender, so all is well.

That is, unless some other team recognizes his awesomeness and forces the Jets to choose between draft pick compensation and frequently blown coverage.
