great question Montreal..depends on what the team needs...this is a deep draft at some positions but for a position like safety it sucks

It is a good question.

In recent years, they've said you have to throw away Jimmy Johnson's draft pick chart - but this year, with no free agency period leading up to it, draft picks could be more valuable than ever.

What is a late 1rst round pick worth?

Seems like a lot of O-linemen will be available at the bottom of the first. Maybe somebody needing a tackle (and who doesn't?) jumps up. Either way, the Jets should dump down. There are enough tweener DE/OLB's in the draft, along with some decent NT prospects that trying to claw up to grab one of them doesn't make much sense, imo. It's not like they're in position to go get Von Miller, even with a trade-up.

Also, the Christian Ponder/Ryan Mallet dropping/rising scenario comes into play. If a team sees these guys at the bottom of the first and gets an itchy trigger finger, that #30 could be pretty enticing. Even though both of those guys suck, but so did JP Losman.

What are the contract rules regarding locking up draft picks? You have to consider how many years you can lock them up for and if there is a pay scale. If all that stuff kicks in for 2012, but not 2011 these guys might be extremely valuable. Since nobody can sign FAs there should be some premium for picks anyway.
