Damien Woody Wants To Return To Gang Green

In a recent interview with 1050 ESPN New York, former New York Jets offensive lineman Damien Woody expressed his desire to return to Gang Green.

“It’s either Gang Green or nobody. That’s the amount of respect I have for the jets, from (owner) Woody Johnson on down to Rex (Ryan), everybody in the locker room. It’s just a great situation for any player to be in, and I feel privileged to be part of the organization for three years. That’s where I stand right now.”

As of now the New York Jets are hoping that second year player Vlad Ducasse can fill Woody’s shoes, but in all honesty re-signing Damien to a cap friendly deal makes the most sense.  Ducasse struggled in his rookie year and the inability to work with the Jets coaches, mainly Bill Callahan, during the lockout had to hinder his development this offseason.  Woody would provide the Jets with continuity on their offensive line, while providing a mentor and leader for the younger players.

Why is Wanye Hunter never mentioned when talking about Woody's replacement??? i thought the guy played well last year and has a mean streak that goes a long way on the O line.

Completely agree, but I think that has more to do with him being a career backup who those who aren't paying all that close attention (i.e., writers) and have no idea who he even is. If Woody's health is an issue, I think Hunter would be one hell of an insurance policy for Ducasse.

Or vice versa. i have absolutely no confidence in Ducasse until he does something. Anything! IMHO Hunter should win the job. hey if he doesn't at least we know he's a good fall back option... wait... is that what YOU just said? :D

I agree 100%. Everything I saw from Vlad last season was reminiscent of Adrien Clarke from 2007. Scary sh!t.

Based on what exactly? His rookie preseason? There was no weekly sucking like Clarke to even make that comparison. I'm not saying it's impossible that it turns out he sucks, but the Clarke comparison at this point is ridiculous. By the end of the year Ducasse had played the season finale and, Bills or not, the guy still was in there against starters and played well, and the Jets absolutely ran down the Bills throat in the process. I certainly think the Jets should have some insurance for him, but don't think for a second he won't be given every last chance to win the starting job.
