GREENBEAN
****. We're taking all our injuries in the areas we have the worst depth. OL and LB. Not even going to mention the other position where we've got no depth. Coaching?
GREENBEAN
Westerman played fine. I think he is fine as an everybody LB. I have been down on Thomas in the past (read since day 1) but he has really been having a nice year and he wasn't a guy I'd been complaining about for a few years. Platoon Westerman and Maybin on rush downs and don't worry about it. Can't Scott play outside some? They can do a little more 4-3. I was actually thinking something similar. Maybe we beef it up on the line with a 4-3 type of defense. Wilk, Dixon/Ellis (if he can get on the field) Pouha, Devito/Pito. Mix it up with Maybin, Westeman and mauga. Just thinking aloud here, but this type of thing could work to compensate for lack of depth at the OLB position and losing BT's athleticism. I was just going to say this, just go 4-3, Pouha, Devito in the middle and Wilk, Pito on the outside replaced by Maybin and Westeman on passing downs. Oh and sign Gholston, we need some size lol
SMC
Thomas was a solid, but unspectacular player. His contributions will be missed because only Pace is above JAG status of the OLBs. This was his last year with the Jets anyway, so instead, he ended his Jet career 12 games early. Good teams overcome injuries. This is about time the coaches earn their salaries. In the end, the success of this season will come back to whether or not the OL can get their sh*t together. While Thomas was a solid player and his replacement will be a downgrade, it's far from an irreplacable situation that's going to cause the defense to crumble. The D will still hold their own, even if they do have their occasional moments of craptitude, but without the OL showing massive improvement the offense is going nowhere anytime soon. If they can get their sh*t together, the ground game can start going again and Sanchez will be as good or bad as always, which is enough for the Jets to win 10 or so games. More than anything, it's just that this compounds that feeling that the injuries are piling up this year, which is how things seem to go for the Jets. They'll get by for a few years pretty easy with injuries and then see a slew of them all happen within a couple of weeks early in one season seeming to make up for those years of good health. That said, if they can get this OL back to even half as good as it's been the last few years, they may be good enough to overcome them for a change. The Mangold injury has clouded the issue. The problem isn't Baxter, Vlad, etc. It's that Wayne Hunter has been godawful, Moore looks like he is still hampered by his hip surgery, and Slauson is just a JAG. The right side of the line is absolutely murdering the Jets. Get that fixed and we won't be talking about Mangold and Baxter.
JonEJet
and Slauson is just a JAG. Slauson is the best player on the line right now.....He's pretty damn good, he's not the problem, he's a solution Brick also has sucked Hope we sign a blocking TE like Malomaleuna
