Tebow to only play QB for Pats

For those of you still following the career of Tim Tebow when the quarterback joined the Patriots, there was some buzz about the QB taking on another role in New England. Could he be a tight end? Fullback?

Nope. He's still lining up under center.

According to The Boston Globe's Ben Volin, Tebow has participated in a drill in which he catches passes and turns upfield, leading to speculation about his role that seemed to start when he joined Bill Belichick's squad.

"As [offensive coordinator Josh] McDaniels explained on Monday, the Patriots are only including Tebow in the drill because he has the potential to be a ballcarrier as a scrambling quarterback. The drill emphasizes ball protection and escaping defenders," wrote Volin.

McDaniels clarified that point further: "He’s just practicing his open-field running. Matt Cassel and (Doug) Flutie and some of those other guys I've had a chance to coach, I think we did the same types of things with them."

Volin said Tebow could be the Pats' primary backup quarterback if he continues to learn the offense and improve, giving them a chance to deal Ryan Mallett. So any dreams of seeing Tebow using his athleticism elsewhere on the field should be squashed.
