When the Jets lost special teams coach Ben Kotwica to the Redskins, their former special teams coach Mike Westhoff said he’d listen to the team if they came calling a year after his retirement from the sideline.

Westhoff listened, but he couldn’t be swayed from his television career. The reason wasn’t the Jets. Westhoff said he’s suggested some names to Rex Ryan as replacements and that he’ll consult with the team during the offseason, but won’t return to coaching because the league is making special teams less significant.

“No, I’m done,” Westhoff said, via Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. ”With the way the league is going with special teams, it just doesn’t interest me anymore to coach them. … It doesn’t sound like there’s going to be much to coach in a few years.”

There have been reports linking the Jets to LSU special teams coach Thomas McGaughey, who was an assistant special teams coach with the Giants for four years before heading to Baton Rouge.

He is partially right- kickoff return is almost gone now. I like him on SNY after the games

for sure, he is right,, ST can still win/lose a game, but I understand what he means,,'less' coaching, impact etc is a de-motivator to a guy who doesnt need the cash or career anymore
