flgreen
The Film Don't Lie: Jets November, 11, 2014 NOV 11 11:00 AM ET By Rich Cimini | ESPNNewYork.com 01COMMENTS0EMAILPRINT A weekly look at what the New York Jets must fix: The Jets are making small strides on offense, but they're still not scoring enough points to win on a consistent basis, and that can be traced to one area -- red zone performance. In Michael Vick's two starts, the Jets are 1-for-5 inside the 20 -- one touchdown in five trips. That's not nearly good enough. They're leaving too many points on the field. Overall, they're 29th in red zone efficiency (46.7 percent success rate). With time to self-scout (they're on the bye week), the coaches can try to figure out one of the most confounding aspects to this 2-8 season: The offense is good enough to crank out long drives (five drives of 10-plus plays in the last two games), but it can't finish. It might surprise you to know the Jets have 30 red zone possessions, only one shy of the Denver Broncos. The difference is the Broncos, like, score touchdowns. For a change, we can't blame the quarterback play. Geno Smith (95.0) and Michael Vick (97.9) have middle-of-the-road passer ratings inside the 20. The problem is the Jets commit too many penalties in the red zone, creating unfavorable down-and-distance situations, and they don't run it well. They have a lot of stuff to fix on the bye week. flgreen
Pretty incredible that the Jets have been in the Red Zone as much as Denver
faba
Having the Worst red zone defense and offense adds up to 2 and 8 record.
JiFtheOracle
Pretty amazing that Marty Mornhinweg can get through to Vick but Chip Kelly couldnt.
sourceworx
I'm sure a good portion of those trips to the red zone ended up as field goals or zero point gains because a penalty was committed.
Obrien2Toon
Pretty incredible that the Jets have been in the Red Zone as much as DenverIt is, but you have to add in the big play TDs the Broncos have. Which you know we don't get.
JetsFanInDenver
The offense is good enough to crank out long drives (five drives of 10-plus plays in the last two games), but it can't finish. It might surprise you to know the Jets have 30 red zone possessions, only one shy of the Denver Broncos. The difference is the Broncos, like, score touchdowns. Broncos have quite a few long TD's out of the redzone as well. JETS might have one. But our redzone woes are more because we do not seem to target WR's in the redzone as often and rely a lot more on gadget plays. Penalties hurt too.
