kelly
Kevin Mawae #68 / JOURNAL Coaching Change 01/09/06 All the speculation about Herm's job security and wether or not he'd be in NY next year has been answered. Without getting caught up in the middle of all that's happened, all I can say is that I wish Herm the best of luck in KC. He will be inheriting a veteran team with great players. There's not a year that goes by where they don't have multiple players making trips to Honolulu. My take on the whole thing is this, it wasn't very clean. A lot of "he said she said" that went on when in fact the answer is always somewhere in between. I love to be in the outdoors, particularly in the woods hunting. A mark of a good hunter is a good kill...one shot, no pain, no suffering. Unfortunately for the Jets organization, this wasn't the case...more like hunting with a hand grenade. Now the team finds itself picking up pieces and filling holes. This change will affect a lot of people, the least of which is Herm and the new coach management hires. There are players jobs that come into question with a new coach, as well as a new staff. Who do you keep, do you bring in your own staff, etc etc. In cases like this the only people that are safe are those on the business side (marketing, PR, ticketing) and those in management. It's interesting to note that as contracts go, coaches can get fired/released and still get payed, GMs too, but as players, contracts are one sided and never guaranteed, no salary offsets, or draft compensations, just a "see ya' and good luck to you." Thus the BUSINESS of the NFL. Anyway, Herm will do well in KC and I expect us to bounce back next season no matter who the next coach is. God Bless. > http://www.nflplayers.com/players/player.aspx?ID=20714§ion=journal
AFJF
I'm surprised at some of the statements he made there. Pretty critical of the jets with the "hunting with hand grenades" comment. I could do without the boo-hoo and how tough it is to be a player in the NFL. Poor bastard might get cut just a year after making 4 or 5 million..how do they do it
faba
I am tired of players saying how tough they have it making millions of dollars- let them live in the real world and try to make a living raising a family or supporting a family. Kevin you lost some of my respect with these comments
kelly
i'm hopin' we're able to draft Greg Eslinger ( Minnesota ) this year; let him sit behind kevin for the '06 season & then start greg in '07 . . . 8)

4HCrew
I just feel so bad for people that get paid millions to work out and play football. My goodness how can they wake up every morning and make it to work? you know how tough it must be to wear a sweat suit, a hat and watch game film? I could never do that. Maxman
I didn't read that article and think that Kevin was complaining. I think his point was that players get hurt and get cut all the time. It is a business and Herm's actions proved that. Bottom line is this team needs Kevin next year. Hopefully he comes back strong, healthy and ready to lead this team because I can't make it through another 4 and 12 season.
4HCrew
Yeah but players can hold out of training camps, miss offseason programs and have one good year and ask for more money. Do they have give money back when they are making 6 million a year and only play 2 games?

Do they have give money back when they are making 6 million a year and only play 2 games? I hear you. It is a two way street. I don't like hearing complaining on either side. I had a real good week at work last week. My paycheck will not change.
4HCrew
Yeah I agree with you the NFL is a billion dollar business and they are all raking it in.
