Jets set to Part Ways With TE CJ Uzomah

In an expected offseason move for the Jets, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler is reporting that Gang Green will be letting go of tight end CJ Uzomah.

#Jets expected to release tight end C.J. Uzomah, per sources. Move will save $5-plus million on the cap.

It’s a cost cutting move that will save Joe Douglas and company $5 million in cap space with free agency fast-approaching.

After signing with the Jets two seasons ago, Uzomah was a visible personality and prominent locker room presence but unfortunately invisible on the field.  He would log just 39 catches for 29 receptions for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns.

With Uzomah’s departure, it could open the door for Jeremy Ruckert to see more action or increase the possibility of Joe Douglas pursuing a tight end in the draft or free agency.  Tyler Conklin remains atop the Jets depth chart for the moment.

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers would be a great addition with the tenth pick and was recently mocked to Gang Green in that spot by Mel Kiper of ESPN.

he was one of MANY  terrible guys Joe brought in-the list of terrible guys is VERY long too

He's never been anything special, but he is another guy who got worse when he signed here.  Fear not though.  As is the case with just about every other offensive player this coaching staff gets their hands on, he'll look much better at his next stop.

Conklin didn't get worse. So there's that.

Stayed the same which is about as much as you can hope for with this team.

Does anybody know the status on Yeboah?  I am pretty sure he is an RFA.  When do they give out the tenders?  I know the players have until right before the draft to sign.

Yup, he's a RFA.

Have to imagine he's a right of first refusal.  He won't stop the staff from picking up a later round TE if they like one in the draft.
