strange_andy
Suppose a team set up for a punt, but faked it. Is it possible for the offense to use a kick as a pass to advance the ball? Would be a nice play for Ben Graham, but I get the feeling it's probably not legal.

raffyD
You're kidding, right? He could be right. It's legal in rugby for a receiver to catch a ball that has been "punted", however the receiver needs to be behind or even with the kicker when the ball is kicked (or the kicker needs to "make that person onsides" by running past them after the kck). I think it's called a box kick, ball goes up real high and your own teammate runs under it to catch it. Since American football is a derivative of rugby this may actully be legal, but I think the effectiveness would be questionable.
