Simmons/News Eddy Curry (l.) and Zach Randolph are being shopped around the league.

Scores of Knicks fans who have seen the Zach Randolph-Eddy Curry experiment flop probably are throwing their hands up in the air in frustration and saying, "You can have 'em." And you know what? You can.

With the trading deadline only nine days away, the Knicks are shopping their two big men, several league executives who have talked to the Knicks in recent days said Monday. It's not known exactly what Isiah Thomas is looking for in return - a Pau Gasol-type fire sale is not being conducted - but he's definitely trying to move both. The Knicks are also open to trading Malik Rose, but Curry and Randolph, who have failed to mesh during this 15-26 season, are the top priorities to send off.

"The problem is that Zach still is seen as the Zach Randolph from Portland - he's got baggage - and people wonder if this is it for Eddy," said one executive. "And, they've got some rough contracts."

Randolph makes $13 million this season and has three seasons at more than $48 million left, starting at nearly $15 million next year. Curry makes $9 million this season, with three years at just over $32 million to go, starting at $10 million next season. Other than starting the two, Thomas rarely has them on the floor together anymore. That's how incompatible they have been since Thomas rolled the dice by dealing for Randolph last summer.

Going into tomorrow's game in Boston, the Knicks' last one before the All-Star break, Randolph is averaging 17 points and Curry has scored only 17 in the last two games combined, typical of his season-long struggles. The Knicks will not be represented by any players in New Orleans at the All-Star Game, only one season after the franchise touted Curry for a place on the East roster. But this season, Curry's scoring average has dropped from 19.5 points per game to 13.9, as his minutes have been cut, from 35 per game to only 26.

"The question is whether he's regressed or, is this it, he's not getting any better?" said the executive. "You have to remember, when Eddy came out of Chicago, he was regarded as someone who did not like to work and who did not like basketball. So do you blame Zach's presence, or do you say, Eddy doesn't have the upside the Knicks thought he had? In either case, the experiment with Zach has not worked."

The executives said that the Knicks want to hold onto several players, starting with David Lee and Nate Robinson, with Jamal Crawford also on that list.

After practice yesterday in Greenburgh, Thomas made it sound as if he is not inclined to do anything, although he did admit, "With our record, every area needs addressing."

By putting Curry and Randolph on the block, Thomas is admitting that his two most-recent major acquisitions have not panned out. In addressing Curry, Thomas admitted he's accumulated too many nice guys and wants to see more of an edge from his players.

"I think the players have to bring it and I've got to do a better job of instilling it, because it's not there," he said. "Within the rules, you've got to find a way to compete with a feistiness. I think over the last 10 games we've competed that way. Can we sustain that? That's yet to be seen."

ISIAH RETURNS: After attending to his ailing mother, Mary, in Chicago on the off-day Sunday, Thomas was back for practice and is not expected to miss any practice time or games. A team spokesman called it a "non-issue."

Fat Eddy Curry has been nothing short of a disgrace his time here.

No passion

No hunger

No desire

Randolph, as has been the case with most guys that Isiah has brought in here yet another dissapointment.

If I had to choose between the two I would send Curry packing first.

I would trade Curry so fast....he's a waste. Randolph is still solid IMO...What teams are willing to trade for that waste of space that is eddy curry?

At least Randolph can score and rebound. Eddy Curry is a nothing. A defensive liability who can't rebound or block shots in spite of the fact that he's usually the biggest guy on the floor. Curry has no value whatsoever.

A team that's desperate for a low post scorer like the Bulls might go after Randolph but they'll probably want the Knicks to take Ben Wallace back. Yuck.
