Saw this on the Herald in the comments for Tomase\'s latest on Spygate and thought it would be appreciated here.Dear Mr. Goodell,Today is April 4, 2008, meaning that your \"attempts\" to reach an agreement with Matt Walsh have now dragged on for 2 months since this scandal caught fire just prior to the Super Bowl. Those of us who are following this saga, and despite your wishes otherwise there are a lot of us Mr. Goodell, have now had the opportunity to review the correspondence between you and Senator Specter. Further we have also taken note of the fact that you failed to make public those constraints your office placed on the proposed Matt Walsh disclosure as Senator Specter requested. Instead you skirted his question by issuing what appears to be another in your long line of hollow statements about progress. There are many things stacking up in support of the crowd that feels you are being disingenuous Mr. Goodell.Mr. Goodell the fans of the NFL deserve much better than you are providing. It is painfully evident that you made a terrible mistake in destroying the evidence you collected against the Patriots at the outset of this issue. It is clear that either the evidence collected from the Patriots was in fact rather innocuous and you levied far too heavy a punishment which has triggered a landslide of scrutiny by the likes of Senator Specter; or as most are now speculating the evidence was overwhelmingly damaging. It seems a consensus is emerging that the weight of the evidence was so heavy that it may have implicated numerous teams and involved not only proof the Patriots cheated in Super Bowls by not just illegally taping signals but may have also included much more sinister actions such as taping opposing practices and even communications tampering. These are serious accusations Mr. Goodell and your fan base has a right to know the truth. As you are surely aware the majority of NFL fans now believe that you are complicit in a concerted attempt to conceal the truth. As the most powerful organized sports corporation in North America \"struggles\" to reach an appropriate legal agreement with an assistant golf pro in Hawaii, the NFL\'s fan base is growing ever more irritable. The time has come for you to drop the charade, force the Patriots to terminate the FBI investigation into Mr. Walsh, and get the facts out on the table for all the world to see; we are tired of your elusiveness and excuses. I am sure that despite your insulated status among the NFL\'s oligarchy you are kept abreast of the pulse of the average NFL fan so by now you certainly know that every team\'s message board is cluttered with thread after thread denouncing your actions, or lack thereof post destruction of the evidence. As each day passes and you fail to act in a manner that demonstrates a recognition of your duties as commissioner or even demonstrates a respect for those fans that fuel your multi-billion dollar organization, the more the outrage intensifies. Mr. Goodell, we hereby demand the truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God. It is incumbent upon you to resolve this matter immediately. Your league is being tarnished by your failure to act. Silence and inactivity on your part has given rise those that believe you are hiding a very deep secret. This time Mr. Goodell we demand that all the materials you discover as part of this investigation be made public. It is our expectation as the shareholders for your league that you conduct a truthful and honest investigation into all matters that may surface as a result of the Matt Walsh information disclosure. If his discovery is isolated to the New England Patriots then it shall be sufficient to investigate and sanction the Patriots in a manner commiserate with the severity of the cheating the disclosure his materials may present. If there is a systemic issue at play then it is your obligation to remedy this issue and reinstitute a stable competitive landscape across your league. If that means you must sacrifice the success of multiple teams in order to improve the future, then that is what must be done, that is the weight of the position you accepted Mr. Goodell. Simply claiming that you are really interested in talking with Matt Walsh while then behind the scenes scheming to make sure Walsh is not enabled to speak- will no longer cut it.Let me point out a few things for you Mr. Goodell. I\'m sure you are already aware of these observations but let me at least serve them up as a reminder: -No one has fallen for your attempt to downplay the significance of this issue by pushing the Competition Committee cronies out to the media to tell everyone how you did a really swell job. Something smells, and it isn\'t my feet.-No one has changed their opinion of the mess you have created by having owners such as Mara and Rooney publicly come out in support of the company line.-The sanctions handed down against the 49ers are very transparent, everyone can see that it is your hope that your \"stern\" actions against others will convince Senator Specter et al. that you mean business and that is the only reason for the harsh penalty against the Patriots not some attempt to punish them severely for a severe transgression. Sorry Mr. Goodell, that is all it is- hope, instead we want the facts. -Everyone saw right through your recent memo to the Competition Committee. This isn\'t about preventing cheating in the future Mr. Goodell it is instead about telling us the truth about the past. We would like to know if you and your predecessor Mr. Tagliabue have been presiding over the NFWWE as opposed to the NFL. -It is very telling that the NFL continues to allow a single individual to tarnish the image of the league with veiled threats when all it would take to silence this man if his claims were false is a simple subpoena and subsequent public disclosure by you. If you really think that those that live and die with your league are so naive as to believe that the legal team of the NFL is incapable of bringing forth the truth then you are truly incompetent and should step down from your post immediately.-Mr. Goodell, the most recent slight of hand trick where coach Belichick and Bob Kraft issued heartfelt apologies to the NFL\'s top brass was not only translucent it was insulting from a fan\'s point of view. Behind the scenes one of two things are known by you; the Patriots cheated much more than you will ever acknowledge, or the Patriots cheating was rather routine and something that is more of a gamesmanship offense than an act born of a deliberate desire to artificially inflate their odds of winning outside the common spirit of fair competition. If it is the former and you know this to be the case then you are a reprehensible coward for allowing those two men to get up before their peers and make such morally bankrupt statements. If it is the latter, then it is again your failure to act in a manner consistent with your title that is causing these two men to have to repeatedly take a public assailing. They should not be continually forced to endure such ridicule and humiliation if they did nothing more than many other teams were doing which was not only acknowledged but widely panned as an effort in futility. Yet since you cannot seem to muster the necessary level of courage to properly address and resolve this issue this private hell for them continues. Now it is emerging that the very Competition Committee you almost certainly goaded into making such supportive statements is pressuring you to resolve this matter, some are even speculating the committee is urging you to sue Matt Walsh in an effort to compel his disclosure. Nearly to a man the fan base thinks you have done severe damage to this league in your very short tenure as commissioner. Your ticket buying public has quickly ascertained that you are very comfortable doling out harsh penalties upon those players that commit offenses which tarnish the image of your league however you seem to stammer around without rhyme or reason when it is one of the NFL\'s power broker owners that is accused of causing the NFL a black eye and busted lip. It does appear Mr. Commissioner that you are ill prepared for the spot light that now shines brightly upon you. In summary Mr. Goodell, the NFL is the top of the mountain in American sports. Right now there are a great many of us which believe there is a swollen chamber of hot lava which is building up within that mountain. You do realize what happens when there\'s too much lava for the chamber to contain correct? Do your job Mr. Commissioner and put this issue to rest as it should have been months ago.Signed,Concerned fans of the NFL

I actually just read and separated that whole thing. I wish I could take back those 8 minutes. Summary:

Dear Roger Goodell,

Either shut up or put up. The End.
