Rich Cimini of ESPNNY.com is reporting that New York Jets Special Teams Coordinator Mike Westhoff has signed a one year contract extension.

Mike Westhoff, the highly-regarded special teams coordinator of the New York Jets, signed a one-year contract extension through 2011 on Saturday, a league source told ESPNNewYork.com.

Barring a change of heart, Westhoff’s plan is to retire after the 2011 season, the source said. He is 62 and has endured at least nine operations on his left leg to combat bone cancer.

Mike Westhoff is considered to be one of the best special team coaches in the game today. He has been with the Jets since 2001. He retired after the 2007 season but was back for 2008. Ironically he “un-retired” and came back when the Jets traded for Brett Favre.

Don't understand why people keep saying this.

What the coaches get paid has nothing to do with the players. Revis' issue is because of the salary cap, not the Jets being able to afford him.
