Brenjetsfan
Kevin Mawae will retire on Friday Posted by Mike Florio on September 10, 2010 10:36 AM ET NFLPA President Kevin Mawae, a 16-year veteran who played for the Seahawks, Jets, and Titans, has decided to call it quits. Several media outlets are reporting that Mawae will announce his retirement on Friday. Mawae wanted to play another year. He has claimed on multiple occasions that he believes his role as NFLPA President caused teams to shy away from him. At one point, he said that the Titans had promised to bring him back for another season. Coach Jeff Fisher disputed that contention. The retirement likely places an expiration date on Mawae's tenure as NFLPA President, since it in turn places an expiration date on his membership in the union. If he can't be a member because he's not a player or actively seeking employment as a player, common sense suggests that he can't be the NFLPA President, either. We're in the process of gathering more information regarding the specific impact that Mawae's retirement will have on his role with the union.
