Well, the Yankees have wrapped up negotiations with one of their veteran free agents.

Red Christian of the New York Daily News reports that closer Mariano Rivera has agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth $30 million and that the agreement will be finalized on Friday.

Rivera’s talks went smoothly because he wasn’t asking for an unreasonable amount of money (cough, Jeter) or years (cough, Jeter) and because he’s actually still an effective player.

The 41-year-old Mo posted a fantastic 1.80 ERA and 0.83 WHIP along with 33 saves in 38 opportunities this year for New York. He was apparently offered a three-year deal worth around $17 million annually from another club, but he turned that down in order to end his career where it started.

Rivera remains one of the most dominant relievers in all of baseball.
