Gang Green bounce back in power rankings

Beating the Patriots always make a team look good and the Gang Green's win against Tom Brady and Co. was no exception. Following their overtime win on Sunday, the Jets' stock got a major boost in all five power rankings. ESPN, FOX Sports and CBS Sports all moved Rex Ryan's team five spots up. ESPN now has them at #15 (#20 last week), FOX Sports moved them up to #14 (#19 last week) and CBS Sports now has them at #13 (#18 last week). ProFootballTalk and CNN SI went even further, as they raised the Gang Green's position in their rankings by a whooping seven spots. PFT now has them at #13 (#20 last week) and CNN SI moved them

up to #12 (#19 last week).

Here's what all these websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: Geno Smith gets the headlines, but let's give it up for the Jets defense, which is allowing a league-best 3.1 yards per rush this season.

FOX Sports: The Jets snapped a six-game losing streak against the Patriots and have not lost back-to-back games. The Jets are a playoff team, but they will play spoiler at some point in the second half.

CBS Sports: They have to be one of the surprise teams in the league. Rex Ryan is doing a heck of a job.

ProFootballTalk: For the second straight year, a butt had a role in deciding a home game against the Jets.

CNN SI: If the Jets never get another thing out of running back Chris Ivory, they'll probably still deem their trade for him -- a 2013 fourth-round pick -- a success. Ivory rushing for 104 yards in a dramatic OT win over the hated Patriots makes anything that happens from here on a bonus.

Not that it matters, but I hated when the announcers during the game and sports writers like this keep stating the Patriots "6 game win streak" against the Jets. It was actually a 5 game win streak, we beat them in the playoffs in 2010. If they want to blow up the win streak then state it correctly, "6 game regular season win streak".

Peter King put the Bills ahead of us in his power rankings; mind boggling considering how badly we beat them with a score that was in no way indicative of the disparity in play.

And as spaceman said, that is a huge pet peeve of mine, when announcers and analysts discount the playoffs or use a biased timeline (conveniently talking about recent results but leaving out previous results that tell a different story) to try and make some sort of statement.

It's like when the media was drooling over Tom Brady's "30 game" home winning streak in 2011 to make some point that he was unbeatable at home while conveniently ignoring the fact that Brady has just lost at home in two playoff games in the previous two seasons against the Jets and Ravens which put a stick in the spokes of their narrative.

And I'm sure we've all heard this one: the Patriots have won the AFC East 9 out of the last 10 years, well why not extend the timeline to Belichick's entire time there? It's only adding 3 more years to their timeline including 2001 when they won the Super Bowl, but oh no, they can't include that because they'd have to show that the Jets and Dolphins won the division in 2002 and 2000 respectively messing up their homage to the Patriots, as if acknowledging that other teams have won the AFCE during Belichick's tenure is a blemish.

sure its nice to move up in the rankings, but the only ranking that matters is the Number 1 ranking at the end of the season. If it helps motivate the team that we are low then so be it, but to me they dont matter. Just play their game and it will all take care of itself.
