He still gets the money, just in what would normally be a much riskier form for any other player. The reason Brady agreed to it is because he's ******* Tom Brady and the Pats aren't going to screw him over. Pretty savvy move by the Pats actually. He's actually going to get paid more. He gives up the skill guarantee so the team doesn't have to put the money in escrow, freeing up real money to spend in free agency this offseason. In return, they are going to pay him $1 million more than he was scheduled to make each year. So instead of his salary being $7 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017. His salaries will be 8,9 and 10 million in those years and he is still guaranteed for injury. If he suddenly sucks next year, the Pats can then cut him without paying him. That's all he's giving up. If he gets hurt, he still gets paid. If they decide they just want to start Garropollo even though Brady is still good, he gets paid. And he gets paid more than he was due to get paid.
