Add Aaron Murray to the list of QB's on the trade block

With Sanchez and Murray on the trade block, it seems less and less likely we'll be able to make a Geno deal.  The Cowboys have options at the moment, despite what the article says about the Cowboys preferring a QB with experience.

Chiefs shopping QB Aaron Murray as more cuts loom

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to pare down their overcrowded quarterback room ahead of final cuts.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Network's Good Morning Football Tuesday that the Chiefs have made teams aware that Aaron Murray is available via trade.

Murray could represent a low-cost option for a team in search of a backup quarterback with some upside. Entering his third year, however, Murray has zero experience in an NFL regular season game, so wouldn't represent a veteran presence teams like the Dallas Cowboys are searching for.

The Chiefs have juggled four backup quarterbacks behind Alex Smith throughout camp after adding Nick Foles. Foles has taken a ton of preseason reps as the first QB off the bench and looks destined for the backup gig after reuniting with Andy Reid. K.C. used a fifth-round pick on Stanford QB Kevin Hogan this season and strong-armed Tyler Bray has been ahead of Murray in the pecking order.

The Chiefs spent a 2014 fifth-round pick on Murray, who would have gone much higher if he wasn't coming off an ACL tear. The former Georgia Bulldog flashed some potential early in the preseason, tossing some nice balls, but he's clearly behind Foles at this stage. If the Chiefs can get anything in exchange for the QB project, it'll make life easier. If nothing materializes, expect Murray to be cut outright.

So didn't need its own thread. Aaron Murray, LOL

The Chiefs continue to be the NFL's worst franchise in league history at drafting QB's.  They aren't the team that comes to mind immediately, but its true.  Here are all the QB's they've drafted in the first 5 rounds since 1964:

1964 (1st round):  Pete Beathard (43 career TD's, 84 INT's)

1968 (2nd round):  Mike Livingston (56 TD's, 83 INT's)

1974 (3rd round):  David Jaynes (1 career passing attempt, and it was intercepted.  LOL.)

1979 (1st round):  Steve Fuller (28 TD's, 41 INT's)

1983 (1st round):  Todd Blackledge (29 TD's, 38 INT's)  --   same draft as Elway, Kelly, and Marino

1989 (2nd round):  Mike Elkins (2 career pass attempts, 1 was intercepted)

1992 (2nd round):  Matt Blundin (9 career pass attempts, 0 TD's, 2 INT's)

1995 (4th round):  Steve Stenstrom (4 TD's, 12 INT's)

1997 (4th round):  Pat Barnes (0 career pass attempts)

2006 (3rd round):  Brodie Croyle (8 TD's, 9 INT's)

2011 (5th round):  Ricky Stanzi (0 career pass attempts)

2014 (5th round):  Aaron Murray (0 career pass attempts)

TOTALS:  168 touchdowns, 271 INT's

They did draft Roger Staubach in the 16th round of the 1964 AFL draft, but he elected to sign with the Cowboys, who also drafted him that year.

The Jets' history with QB's in the draft looks terrific when compared to the Chiefs.  Their franchise's saving grace has been getting guys like Len Dawson (drafted by the Steelers) and Trent Green (drafted by the Chargers) away from other franchises.  They had Rich Gannon from 1995-98 (drafted by the Vikings), but he was passed over by Elvis Grbac on the depth chart during that period.
