Minimum requirements to be able to start threads?

Recommended Posts

Seems to be a rash of new accounts starting tons of low-value new threads. Many forums require a minimum post count in order to start a thread.

I know this can have the reverse incentive for new accounts to spam posts to hit the requirement amount quickly. Maybe instead do an account age restriction? 2 weeks before starting a new thread? Most trolls are looking for a quick release, they rarely play the long game.

Just a thought.

Unfortunately there are too many sensitive people on this site. If you don't like something ignore it. If you don't like a thread name don't click on it. Very simple.

Ya I don't like being spammed by Viagra ads on my email, either. Guess that makes me "too sensitive."

As a new register, I agree.  I think fans look to others online for solidarity (or solace as it were).  Hard to find that if you can’t really voice what you’re thinking on your own (I.e. dependent on glomming on to someone else’s post).

We didn’t need the selfie to know how you feel about reading an opinion you disagree with. Can only imagine if you disagreed with someone about something actually important.

Keep worring about the trolls and low value threads. Sorry noone is entertaining your asinine requests.

Can honestly say I’ve never seen anyone more triggered over something as mundane as this. Will give you the last word since clearly you’re way more invested in this than I am.

So we had a new member that caused a bunch of problems on game day last week. I was able to find the feature we used to use.

The NFL forum has been changed so it now requires 25 posts before you can start a new thread. Feedback forum and all the others are the same (0). But this will solve the game day problem with fans of other teams spamming.

Open to feedback on this but the 25 post minimum should be in place now.  Thanks.

Seems this is no longer on?

Yeah I was wrong with what I setup. The only option we have is to prevent people with less than 25 posts to not post in a certain forum. So I accidently disabled that for the Jets forum. I don't have a thread only option.

I am talking to the mods now, I think we are going to change something on the registration side that will slow down the flood of these spam accounts. Thanks.

Fair enough... Seems to be the same guy over and over again for a lot of it.  I know IP bans don't work anymore, but it's just a mess.

Yeah he is living on a yacht in the Caribbean apparently. Unless, and this is a longshot, he is trying to mask his IP somehow.
