Everyone here is saying we should get rid of Vilma cause he cant play the 3-4 or that we should keep him simply because he's the 'QB of the D'. Hello? Maybe we should keep him because he CAN play defense in the 3-4 and IS the QB of the D as well. Ya he is undersized and all that, but he still managed to lead our team in tackles last year, and that was a TERRIBLE year for him apparently. The answer would be for "Mangenius" to quit forcing his players to play in a system they aren't equipped to succeed in and go back to the 4-3. Ahh the old "Do you get the players to fit your system or mold the system around the players?" debate. Personally, I think the coaching staff's system always should take precedence over individual players. After all, the head coach (hopefully) ought to be there longer than any one player. If Mangini is serious about the 3-4, and I think he is, it's going to take longer than 1 season to get the players you need for it. And if talented players needed to be traded away to do so, so be it. Vilma can fetch quite a bit of value on the open trade market. That is to say, if it comes to a point in which he should be traded (this season will tell us one way or another). Until Mangini proves incapable of creating the system he wants, its his show. Get a real freakin NT in here and give him a shot at the 3-4 with that before you conclude he cant play the 3-4 (with an undersized NT who was dominated last night) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
