GreenBeans
Welcome to Post of the Week, ladies and gents. We have a HUGE edition for you this week - there are at least 80 nominations (I lost count) under consideration, most related to Asterisk Nation or the 10 v. 11 debate. Before we get to the nominations, I'd like to address a question sent in to the POTW staff from one of JetNation's finest: Question from the The Troll Can Paul Zimmerman win POTW? I am happy to report that Paul "Dr, Z" Zimmerman is in fact eligible to win POTW - all he needs to do is sign up and start posting now! I'm sure that Max would give him "special consideration" if he were to start posting and writing for JN and JetsWiki. It all depends on whether to good doctor hangs that way, if you know what I mean. So, on behalf of POTW, I'd like to welcome [link=http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/writers/dr_z/archive/index.html]Dr. Z[/link] to start posting today. Anyway, on to this week's nominations.... ----- Originally Posted by Smizzy Chad,Chad, He's our man...If he can't do it...No one can! Originally Posted by Sperm Edwards I'd just like to know where Chad suddenly has a reputation of being a QB who will kill you if you blitz him. Quite the contrary. He's slow on his feet, he's got a slow delivery, and doesn't see the field nearly as well as overly-optimistic Jets fans claim he does. On the plus-side, he also can't make a quick throw into tight coverage downfield if a small window opens up. He's accurate if given the time & the receiver is in single-coverage or just flat-out has his man totally beat. Then he can float one in there, which he's actually pretty good at. I still think he's 2nd to none with the play-action & I include Peyton & anyone else in that discussion. It's this that makes him at least an ok QB at times, & particularly good against bad defenses who have to respect even a weak running game. If he's in there, I root for him. I'd rather be rooting for someone else b/c there is almost zero chance of Pennington leading us to a SB. The guy gets hurt like every season anyway, so who the f cares what he's good at. He's unreliable vs decent defenses & he's unreliable to make it through a season. Basically, he's unreliable. (Editor's Note: Good points - particularly in the last sentence. I dig Chad Pennington - I root for the guy, he's a good person, I want him to win. That said, I do not think he is the answer...11) ----- Topic: THAT'S IT!! It appeared that the animal wandered away from its farm and onto some boards covering the well, which broke, said Bruce Huseth, fire chief in this western Minnesota town. ADVERTISEMENT Firefighters quickly realized that the animal, which belongs to farmer Warren Gundberg, couldn't just be pulled from the abandoned well on Bryan Nelson's land. So they started pulling away earth with a tractor and dismantling the well block by block Thursday. Once one wall had been taken apart, firefighters put a harness around the donkey and guided it out with a rope. "Whatever it takes," Nelson said as he watched his well come down. "I love animals, and I'm just glad it's OK." Gundberg admonished the animal after the rescue: "I bet you'll think twice about doing that again. If you would have stayed home you wouldn't be in this trouble." Huseth said that he has rescued cows that have fallen through ice, but that the donkey was a first. link - http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/net/20070914/capt.e209a6bd81d9e50e8ee11ac297e7e021.jpeg?x=380&y=266&sig=fzOi7Ibi4gv_OKuQOL0I6w-- Originally Posted by Green DNA So there was an ass in the hole? The answer is the same as it is for this question - "It's week 2 and the Jets are 0-2 - who is your starting quarterback?" - Kellen Clemens. This is looks to be a challenging season with 8-8 being an optimistic record. That means no playoffs in the AFC. He asked the class "name an organization that we can discuss". One smug-looking student in the back said "The New England Patriots". A couple other students sitting near him were also Patriots fans (I don't know what they're doing here in North Carolina, but oh well). We're told to name the "stakeholders" for the Patriots, and a list is written on the board (fans, coaches, players, vendors, advertisers, grounds crew, owner, other NFL teams, commissioner, among others). The professor then asks "OK, now tell me about something that has happened or could happened that would effect all of these stakeholders". Me, wearing a Jets shirt and deciding to cause a ripple, raised my hand and said "Well, the Patriots were just caught cheating (at this, the professor said "oh yeah, I heard about this"), and this affected the whole organization; the head coach was fined $250,000, their achievements are tainted, fans might be disallusioned", etc. A girl from Boston sitting in the back had a look as if she was going to punch me in the face, and immediately responded "Every team in the NFL does it, they were just the only ones that got caught!" The other Pats fans also seemed offended, while the rest of the class just laughed. Later on, the professor asked that someone take a picture of the board so he could use it as an example for later classes. At this point, I asked the professor to put an asterisk next to the name "New England Patriots" before taking the picture. The Pats fans still looked a bit pissed off, but in my mind, mission accomplished. The lesson? If you come into contact with Pats fans in your daily routine, don't hesitate to let them have it about their franchise. Don't let them get on Eric Mangini's case for being a whistleblower or allow them to make excuses. Make every Pats fan know, constantly, that their team is forever tainted for the actions of a few. Wipe the smug smiles off their faces. God knows they've given us enough grief for the last 6 years. (Editor's Note: You, sir, are awsome! Go get yourself a beer at the pier in Wrightsville on Max! Lady Jet
Wow! First, I agree that Beans is amazing as well. Not just because I won, , but because I can't imagine how long it took to put this together. Plus he always has great commentary to go along with it. Alksterisk - (Alk - you've been a great sport this week, all things considered. ) Second, I'm flattered. There were many, many great nominations. Thank you SoFla and Thai for the noms. But I must admit, I am not like the great Susan Lucci, finally breaking out of her always a nominee, never a winner streak. I may have won one or two, but who's counting. And thank you everyone for the nice words. Now, onto
