#90
Mad Mike Strikes Again! Aucoin was the glue of the D. He's worth 4 million. He played 40 minutes a game! ARGH! The Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday announced the signing of free-agent defenseman Adrian Aucoin to a four-year, $16 million deal. Aucoin spent the last three seasons with the New York Islanders, totaling 33 goals and 80 assists. During the lockout, he played 14 games with MoDo of the Swedish Elite League. "Adrian Aucoin was one of the top players we had targeted," Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon said Tuesday in a statement. "He's a smart hockey player, logs lots of ice time, and is a solid two-way player who has an excellent shot from the point. He possesses excellent leadership skills and is a character player. He is also a classy individual who fits in perfectly with our organization."
BlackLabelJetsFan
BAD BAD BAD $4 million a year is not that outrageous for Aucoin. Match that offer and he stays in NY, living in Garden City and playing all those minutes. Not a happy camper right now.
BlackLabelJetsFan
This now means they need to put on a push to bring back Hamrlik. If Ninimaa and Leetch is the plan, Mad Mike, I know where you live!
BlackLabelJetsFan
Isles fans rejoice...thanks to Mad Mike, your 5th, 6th, and 7th defensemen will probably be Bruno Gervais, Chris Campoli, and Ryan Caldwell. At least the kids will get to play
BlackLabelJetsFan
Even better, a Defensive depth chart of: 1) Ninimaa 2) Zhitnik 3) Martinek 4) Butenshon 5) Gervais 6) Campoli 7) Caldwell Yeah, welcome back NHL! ON EDIT: Adding Zhitnik good. Defensive depth still poor.
NorthCoastJetsFan
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but now I think the topic title says it all. Aucoin should have been his first call and it should have gotten done easily and quickly. Another long year for us Islander fans.
