Morrissey
Here is what I would do. 1. Derek Jeter SS ® 2. Johnny Damon LF (L) 3. Alex Rodriguez 3B ® 4. Mark Teixeira 1B (S) 5. Hideki Matsui DH (L) 6. Jorge Posada C (S) 7. Robinson Cano 2B (L) 8. Nick Swisher RF (S) 9. Brett Gardner CF (L) The reason I flip Damon and Jeter is so I can separate the LHH and RHH while having A-Rod in the 3 hole and Teixeira in the 4 hole. I persoanlly think the best hitter should bat 3rd, so he can get the more at bats. Remember Ruth hit INFRONT of Gehrig. Also, Derek Jeter has been the lead off hitter in the past, and done a great job, and Damon has more power than Jeter, so to me, flipping them, makes more sense. Morrissey
wait you guys like Gardner over Melky?? Yes. 10x more dangerous on the bases, and Melky has been given a chance, and he failed. Not only has he not gotten better over the past few years, he's gotten worse. Gardners turn.
LiLMiCKMANTLE
And Swisher over Nady??.. i dont like that at all.. i rather see a guy that plays outfield more often be out there not a 1b/of out there

The guy played CF as well, though he's not very good in CF, but he's pretty good in the corners. I also think Swisher is a better hitter, he had a very unlucky season in 2009. Nady is just a mediocre player who played WAY OVER HIS HEAD in 2008, we should of never traded for him. We will regret trading Jose Tabata. Jbro22
Like I said in the other thread, I want Melky out. I think he does nothing but distract Cano. I'm happy Abreu's gone for that reason. As for Nady and Swisher, I think Nady is much better. But I never really watched Nady until he was in Pinstripes, so I don't really have much to go on. Admittedly so I didn't watch the Yankees towards the end of the season as much as I did in the beginning, and after the all star break. Yeah Yeah I know, I'm not a true fan. I was back at school and I wasn't about to watch the fading Yankees alone in my room on my sling box. But as far as I remember Nady was awesome when he first got here. He's a solid LFer, and just had a great year. The guy just finished up with a .303/.375/.461 season, he has more power than Jeter, which is why he would fit better in the #2 hole. Damon really gets unwarranted hate from Yankee fans.

Psssst.... might have something to do with that team he played with before us... As long as Damn can range to balls in LF I don't have an issue with him. I know he has a weak arm but if he can get to the ball then I'm ok with him.

Morrissey
You cant hide a bad anything when you need it, ya dig? In LF.. if it's shallow runners won't run regardless of how strong the arm is. If it's deep, unless you have a really strong and accurate arm.. chances are you won't get him. Sometimes it will happen, but not enough for it to hurt your team in the big picture.

Well you have a few a few players to look forward to (Pedro Alverez, Andrew McCutchen) including a former Yankee prospect (Jose Tabata) You want Nady back? We'd love to get our hands on Tabata again. He's a good LF, not great. He can hit, though, and I'm very happy to have him in the leadoff role. However, if he isn't the lead-off guy, then he isn't filling his primary role with the team. We could just as easily put Swish in LF.

Not too bad of a haul for a non-contending team like the Pirates, three arms to compete for a spot in the rotation and our new #3-4 prospect for a lefty specialist that was a soon to be FA and 1 year of an outfielder. Looked a lot better after the Yankees missed the playoffs too. Yanks have 1 year of Nady and the compensation picks to break even.

Sharrow
I'd be a lot more optimistic if we hadn't passed on Weiters year before last though. Damn that would be sweet. McCutchen the CF, Tabata, Alvarez, Weiters at the top of the order. How sweet would that have been?
