Feely and the Jets: The Feeling Is Mutual

Even if that wasnt the case... there is no way they offered Nuge only a 1year deal to be THE guy... it was going to involve signing another kicker either way...

There is no evidence that that is the case. If that were the case, you would've heard about it. They offered him a 1 year deal to be the guy, he turned it down. The Jets then went to Stover, who also turned them down. Then they went to Feely. Each kicker got the same deal. Just because you have a strong dislike for Nugent doesn't mean he wasn't given the same contract as Stover and Feely. He was hurt last season, he wasn't horrible.

This is the same player who once made 22 straight FG's, tying a franchise record. This is the same player who only ONCE missed a GW or Game tying kick in the 4th quarter or Overtime of a game and that one miss came from 50 yards out in his rookie season (2005 when we went 4-12 with Brooks Bollinger leading the way for the majority of the games) against New Orleans.

Nugent was not liked here by fans because he was a second round pick. Do not blame him for that, blame the organization. He is still a solid kicker. Is he one of the best? No, not yet he isn't. Is he good? Yes he is.

Stop obsessing with past Jets like Herman Edwards and Mike Nugent and this board would be better for it. Move on. Their fans have moved on, why can't their haters?

lol, he only missed one game winning kick, even if that is true (which it may or may not be when you really think about it), he was not really ever put in a position to win or lose us a game, hell for 2 of the 3 seasons he did play we won what, 9 games total? In 05 and 07 we got our doors blown off so it isn't like he was even given a chance to win us a game or lose us a game. The guy is a career 80% fg kicker, 27 guys did better than that last year.

I loved Nuge actually... chanted his name at games... if he did not want to prove his worth in camp... thats too bad... see ya... Feeley will be fine...

Nugent missed against New Orleans in 2005 as time expired.

His makes at the end of the 4th Q/OT to win or tie games?

~ 2006 Christmas Eve @ Miami End of 4th Q to win

~ 2007 vs Pittsburgh End of 4th Q & in OT to win

~ 2007 vs Washington End of 4th Q to force OT

4 out of 5 (counting both kicks against Pittsburgh) in "big time" situations isn't too shabby.
