Jetlife33
They're still seven weeks away from training camp, but the New York Jets are "light years ahead of where we were last year" on offense, according to coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. He's confident because the comfort level in his system and the overall talent level are greater than last year. Mornhinweg, speaking last week to season-ticket holders, said he "would expect" to cut in half their turnover and sacks totals "just with experience alone." Let's analyze that statement for a moment. Okay, a moment is up. I checked out the numbers and, if the Jets reach Mornhinweg's statistical goals, they could be vying for a championship. Consider: They committed 29 turnovers and allowed 47 sacks last season. The league leaders in those categories last season were the Indianapolis Colts (14 turnovers) and Denver Broncos (20 sacks). The Jets would be in the leaders' neighborhood. Those are lofty goals, but you have to aim high, right? The Jets probably would be a playoff team if they reduced the turnover/sack total by 25 percent, let alone 50 percent. That they finished 8-8 with last year's numbers was a small miracle. They committed a big mistake (turnover or sack) once every 13.4 snaps. It's almost impossible to overcome that many negative plays. The Broncos, the best offense in the AFC, did it once every 25.1 snaps. The Jets have a lot of room for improvement -- and Mornhinweg intends to make it happen. Arsis
Near impossible no? Turnovers seems highly likely. Sacks? Not so much.
Villain The Foe
I say If they simply cut their losses in half it should take care of everything else.
