JetNation Posted October 11, 2016 Share Posted October 11, 2016 By Glenn Naughton Continuing to stick with a trend they established last season and in to this year, the New York Jets have added another lengthy target for Ryan Fitzpatrick after claiming 6′ 2” wide receiver Jeremy Butler off waivers. The Jets cut ties with fellow receiver Jeremy Ross to make room for Butler. We have claimed WR Jeremy Butler on waivers and released WR Jeremy Ross. Jalin Marshall, checking in at 5′ 10” is the only jets pass catcher who comes in under six feet. Butler spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens after playing his college ball at Tennessee-Martin where he racked 20 TD receptions in 2 seasons while getting some work as a punt returner, bringing back 9 punts for 65 yards. During his rookie campaign, Butler hauled in 31 receptions for 363 yards. With star receiver Eric Decker still on the shelf with a partially torn rotator cuff, it appears the Jets were determined to add another big body to the roster. Last week, the team held a workout for former Titans wide receiver Andrew Turzilli who checks in at 6′ 4” but nothing materialized following the session. Click here to read the full story... Decker: eh...not really living up to the billing. A big target, but hurt A LOT and definitely NOT a Number 1. He did serve a purpose, but I can't really say that he's indispensable. Not in his specific role, but continuing to look for/bring in big WR's despite a plethora of them, makes me wonder if they're leaning toward Decker missing significant time. In fairness, they didn't rule out Decker missing the rest of the season, but this could be a sign that they're less optimistic in terms of a pending return. If Decker is ready to go in a week or two, then this is an odd move. Ross was clearly the better KR/PR guy back there and this move puts Jalin Marshall back in to that role where he's struggled holding on to the ball. I was a bit worried about it but now looks like they'll be looking to Nick Marshall who they juts took from Jax practice squad. He averaged 26.6 per return last season.
