RSJ
If you are a football junkie like I am you should check this site out. It is all about the west coast offense and includes several playbooks and the thinking behing the wco. http://www.westcoastoffense.com/
Maxman
Just bookmarked that. Pretty cool. Funny seeing Hackett and Gruden underneath him. Some people have obviously had more success than others!
RSJ
I agree, it is a system and not an offense alone. Not to start a Herm vs Hackett debate but it is also interesting that Walsh made sure the entire coaching staf including the head coach where on the same page with the offensive gameplan and that he felt this was very important. Hackett, Gruden, Holmgren and McCarthy run the purest and truest forms of The WCO. Hackett is not a bad offensive coordinator. He's average. He's awesome with QB's. But he is too conservative and never breaks from his script. It's a very complex and strict offense. McCarthy who was with The Saints and now is in San Fran runs the same offense as Hackett. He is Hackett's understudy. That's his boy right there.
