BroadwayJoe12
What I am about to say, is something that I have always viewed as blasphemous. A true great cut of meat should stand on its own and not require much more than salt, pepper and butter / your choice of high-smoke temp oil. However, to this day, I have not had a better steak than the Cajun Ribeye from Bryant & Cooper in Rosyln Long Island. Every single bite is perfect. Have hit Smith and Wollensky, Peter Lugers, Christos, Sparks and a few others. Always looking for a good steakhouse to try, interested to see where everyone's favorite is. The worst of the touted "top-end" steakhouses, Peter Lugers. Staff are arrogant and rude. Sides are terrible, outside of their thick-cut bacon, which is fantastic. JustInFudge
Damn it! I was literally just in Roslyn over the weekend at Hendricks with some friends. Wedding in New Hyde Park and we stayed at Garden City hotel. Had a mediocre over priced strip at their restaurant, Red Salt Room.

If you’re still in the area, do yourself a favor and go and get the Cajun Ribeye. It’s the only place that I can recommend without hesitation and have had friends drive from upstate NY (Saratoga area) just to visit / have that steak. One of the best slices of key lime pie that I’ve had outside of Florida too.

Next time though, for sure.

I brush on evoo when I grill mine. they actually don’t have a ribeye cut, I get the bigger filet with creamed spinach and a potato side. with the current shortages, be prepared for a huge bill. This is for sure my “special occasion “ place. Not my “ I could go for a great steak “ place

Use to go a lot years ago. Just wasn't enjoyable the last two times and haven't gone in over a decade. Don't miss it at all. Don't love S&W either to be honest. I like Wolfgang's but even that was just so-so the last time we went. i'll probably give it a lot more slack because in general have had good experience there. years ago there was a steakhouse that had a steak and unlimited wine (out of 4 choices) for like 40 bucks. (20 years ago). that was fun but they went out of business.
ZachEY
Quality Meats and Bowery Meat Company are both very good, modern options.

Slightly off-topic, but there's a pretty damned good AYCE sushi place near our hospital for $28 called Nova Bistro (whatever it is that they're actually serving I'm not sure, but it tastes great and we've never gotten sick... yet..) Biggs
I used to love going to Lugers Brooklyn and Great Neck, Smith and Wolinsky and the Post House. Haven't been to the post house in years after I got a mediocre steak that cost enough to buy a small Island country. Went to both Lugers and Smith and Wolinsky in the last year. Both sucked. Went to a local place near me in CT. Cafe Routier and had the steak frites. Great steak and the fries were reminicent of MacDonalds in the trans fat era. It was awesome. During Covid I ordered a burger from Lugers in GN when I was visiting my dad. One of the worst burgers ever. This was a place that was an absolute homerun 30 years ago.

I hear ya, Lugers was a disgrace. Burger was terrible too. Only redeeming item on the menu was the bacon. I believe The NY Times eviscerated them a year ago giving them a 0 star rating. Bryant and Cooper to me is still the best, good wine and app list as well. And if it’s on someone else’s dime, the seafood tower is unreal. And the steak frites, as perfectly fried and oily as you’d ever dream. Moving to Yale next year, any of those steak places near New Haven?? The Tavern on State is supposed to be good. Haven't been.

#27TheDominator
I keep reading people shoveling dirt on Peter Luger's and think "What are they talking about? It's ******* great!" Then I realize that I haven't been since the mid-1990s.
