bitonti
Well they signed Teague so they won't need to draft a center... Well they signed Kimo so they won't need to draft a defensive end... Well they signed Pope so they won't need to draft a defensive tackle... Well they re-signed Baker so they don't need to draft a tight end... Well they traded for Ramsey so they don't need to draft a quarterback... Well they signed Tm Dwight so they don't need to draft a wide reciever. Well they signed Chatham and Kassell so they don't need to draft a linebacker... ************ WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!! ************ wake up Jets fans - Signing stop gaps and aged vets doesn't preclude the need to draft impact players at all of these positions!! They are all still positions of need! tangini is smarter than all of us put together because they know that the draft is not to fix current holes. The draft is to re-stock for the future - 3 to 5 years from now. It seems like 90% of posters on these sites are forgetting that. Yeah it's great when a Jon vilma shows up puts on 20 pounds of rip and becomes a great player as a rookie. That's gravy. That's not what's expected of rookies. Great teams don't depend on rookies to help them win games. The rookies are for the future not for the present. The truth is that they still need to draft players at all of these spots. You're right Bitonti. But what it does allow us to do is draft BAP available as opposed to taking players by position.
raffyD
All these signings have given us some much needed flexibility for the draft, we won't be forced into any must have situations and instead let the draft come to us. Given the depth of this draft that is the best thing the fo could have done. Nice work boys.
SeniorFlaJet
It almost sounded like you expected them to pass on all their draft picks because they filled a lot of spots thru FA. I think all of the FA signings were only for 2 and 3 years. It give them a lot of flexibility to draft players that they think will be here for a long time. And they have a lot of picks to take advantage of a deep draft.
faba
We draft the best players at that point in time instead of reaching for needs- good character hard workers- that is my ideal draft
PeterNorth09
Teague and Kimo are legit. We don't need to draft a center and DE now. I don't know about Ramsey being the qb of the future, especially if he has no one good to throw to and no running game to fall back on. Jets should go Cutler or Young at 4. Or Draft Vernon Davis at 4 and Lendale White at 29. You draft those two and even Brooks Bollinger looks good next year.

I hate to say this, but bit is 100% correct on his assessment. FA signings should be used to create depth and flexibility, and not as building the foundation of a football team. That is what the draft is for.
CoachTsurfing
I agree. The Jets signing these FA are good they provide us depth, but we need to select some talent in the upcoming draft. I think we have done a nice job the past couple of years. Minus the B. Thomas pick and the DT we got in the third last year we have done a decent job. I think we have dropped the ball the past couple of years concerning our own free agents. I think we should have retained a few of them. Not all! But a few key guys.
