Smizzy
Yankees | Team heavily pursuing Pena Fri, 14 Apr 2006 13:51:41 -0700 The New York Newsday's Jon Heyman reports the New York Yankees are heavily pursuing free agent 1B Carlos Pena (Tigers) after a few defensive flaws have been exposed to open the season. The Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chiba Lotte Marines of the Japanese League are also interested in him. But the Yankees appears his most likely target. 124
He'd be a good fit at 1B with Giambi the DH when Bernie has his days off.

Maxman
I thought they were bringing Tony Pena in to replace Jorge. Would have been an upgrade!
shutout
What ever happened to Tony Clark? Why'd we let him go? And Travis Lee? Wasn't he supposed to replace Nick Johnson as the defensive 1b...and why did we ever trade Johnson in the first place?

Wasn't he supposed to replace Nick Johnson as the defensive 1b...and why did we ever trade Johnson in the first place? Tony Clark = Average defensive 1st baseman. And he is 100% a mistake hitter. Good pitchers don't make many mistakes. He was expendable. Travis Lee = He wanted too much money for a guy who missed an entire year. He was signed but didn't play at all. He is a good defensive 1B though. Nick Johnson = Mr. Glass. He could not stay healthy.
Blackout
Tony Clark had a solid HR/AB ratio last year in limited at-bats (30 in 349 at-bats) but he's pretty old
