Lou Holtz on the topic of Nick Saban

I think a coach could build a winner in Miami with Culpepper. But that coach will need to get that team to play tougher in between the tackles and mix in more youth on that defense to go along with the vets. Saban is just an overhyped college coach. Think about it who was the last college coach to come into the NFL and become a succesful HC? I can't think of one since Jimmy Johnson and that had more to do with the amount of talent on the Cowboys than anything else. Granted Jimmy was a good coach but not as good as his record indicated.

Johnson had a few good things happen-lucking into Emmitt Smith, the makings of a great OL and the draft picks form the Herschel Walker trade. Plus frm having been in the college ranks he knew these players coming out very well. It was a very unique set of circumstances. Get the impression Saban would rather outrecruit than outwork the opposition, and play golf a whole bunch 8 months a year. And in a sense, honestly an NCAA coach is an easier job lifestyle-wise. If he wins at Bama, he'll be treated like a god every place (except LSU). What really is the allure to the Dolphins job? he'll be grining it out 6 games in the AFCE agaisnt top flight coaches, while in the SEC there are Ole Miss's and Arkansas on the schedule, plue 2 BS home games. If he can recruit at all(and he did at MSU and LSU) he's a lock for 9 wins in a bad year, competing for a BCS championship once every few years.
