Is Rex Ryan Overrated? (video)

The NFL lockout has basically eliminated any type of football news, leaving most in the media to do whatever they can to generate a story.  Recently the folks over at ESPN.com posted a video discussing whether Rex Ryan was overrated or not.  Lets see, a first time NFL head coach that has brought his team to back-to-back AFC Championship games with a young quarterback.  The answer to this question is pretty obvious.

If anything an argument can be made that Ryan’s brash style sometimes takes away from what his teams have accomplished. The naysayers will focus on on Rex’s headline capturing words instead of appreciating the way he manages his team in the media capital of the world.

Listening to Rex is very similar to listening to Belichick, it is always very informative and you know he knows his craft.

All the bravado detracts from him and is white noise now.

His bravado actually keeps the spotlight on himself and off his young, mistake prone QB. While i don't discount that Rex is just a big talker by nature, I do think that he has purpose with it as well. If you recall, Eli Manning was getting widely panned by the NY media before he suddenly won a super bowl. He was struggling just the same as Mark has been and the NY media was tearing him to shreds. This media market salivates over struggling, high profile players. Mark has taken more national media criticism than local, which is astonishing when you really think about it. That result lies squarely on Rex's mannerism and "bravado".

before we can answer this question, we need to know what is his current rating ?

At ESPN? Probably somewhere after the greatest coach ever of all time in the universe Tony Dungy and the second greatest coach ever of all time anywhere ever Tony Dungy.
