Plaxico Burress, the wide receiver everybody is waiting to see, participated in the Friday morning walk-through, showing no ill effects from his sore left ankle. But that was a walk-through and, under the new CBA rules, there's no jogging allowed.

As a precaution, Burress was to be held out of the afternoon practice -- a real practice with running and contact and actual football.

"There's still swelling in the ankle, so we're going to be smart," Rex Ryan said.

The Jets have a day off Saturday, but Burress could make his practice debut Sunday. He rolled his ankle Wednesday while practicing pass routes with Santonio Holmes.

KERLEY'S Q RATING: We're less than a week into training camp, and there's already a buzz about rookie WR Jeremy Kerley (fifth-round pick, TCU).

"Kerley's got a chance to be something special," Ryan said.

Said LaDainian Tomlinson: "I don't see anybody being able to really cover him in the slot, one on one."

Tomlinson might be a bit biased (he, too, is a TCU alum), but there's no doubt that Kerley has impressed with his ability to separate against defenders. But, remember, he hasn't played a game yet, so it might be time to cue the Bill Parcells voice: "Let's not put him in Canton just yet ..."

CBA STUFF: Player rep Brandon Moore provided some insight into what was going on behind the scenes Thursday before practice, when players across the league voted to ratify the new CBA. Before the scheduled 4 p.m. practice, pushed back from 2:15, the players held a meeting. Before collecting the ballots, Moore gave a bullet-point presentation to his teammates, highlighting the main points of the CBA. After the vote, they got dressed and headed out to practice, with the free-agent players having to wait about an hour before they received the go-ahead from the NFLPA.

ODDS AND ENDS: With Moore (hip) still on the PUP list, the Jets are looking for more depth at guard, GM Mike Tannenbaum said in an interview on 1050 ESPN New York Radio. On Thursday, they had Vlad Ducasse working at right guard with the first team. Moore is expected to be fine. Tannenbaum called Moore one of the "upper tier" guards in the league ... Some minor roster moves: The Jets waived CB Jeremy McGee, G Tom Ottaiano and T Jeff Willis. They signed G Trevor Canfield and T Pete Clifford ... Ryan on Shaun Ellis' visit to the Patriots: "If he goes there, he'll have to strap it on" when he faces the Jets. Ellis remains unsigned. The Jets made him a one-year offer for the vets' minimum, $910,000. The Patriots may have filled their defensive-line need, signed Mark Anderson ... Rookie LB Matthias Berning has a possible concussion after being "Terminated" -- a collision with FB John (The Terminator) Conner.

I feel bad for the LB kid, but I couldn't help it, this definitely brought a smile to my face. Conner's going to do some serious damage this year... gotta love it.

Also great to hear all of the gushing about Kerley. If he can contribute out of the slot from early on, that could be huge for the Jets.
