his draft profile

OVERVIEW

The mainstay of the Wolfpack secondary, Maddox battled hamstring problems throughout his senior year but still was a strong candidate for Thorpe and Lott Award honors. Even though he missed one game and parts of several others, his value to the team was evident when he was honored with team co-MVP honors in 2004.

A two-time All-Dade County selection at Miami's Killian High School, Maddox also earned second-team all-state accolades as a senior. He made 120 tackles and five interceptions his final season and was credited with 121 tackles and three interceptions during his junior year. His high school teammates, Pat Thomas, Stephen Tulloch and Miguel Scott, were all members of a defensive unit called "Killian Killer Kats" and all joined Maddox as members of the North Carolina State defense upon graduation.

Maddox saw limited action in every game as a freshman with the Wolfpack, totaling 13 tackles (seven solos). He took over strong safety duties the following season, finishing second on the squad with 126 tackles (94 solos), including four sacks and five stops for loss in 2002. He was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection as a junior, as he ranked fifth in the ACC and 22nd in the nation with an average of 11.2 tackles per game. He led the Pack with a career-high 145 tackles (113 solos) in 2003, adding two sacks, 10 stops behind the line of scrimmage and six pass breakups.

After starting every game the previous two years, Maddox had that string snapped in the 2004 season opener as a hamstring injury would force him to miss the Richmond contest. He would injure his other hamstring vs. Wake Forest but still managed to start nine of 10 games. Maddox finished his senior season with 57 tackles (35 solos), two sacks and four pass deflections.

In 47 games for the Wolfpack, Maddox collected 341 tackles (249 solos) while participating in 2,430 plays. He had eight sacks for minus-62 yards and 18 stops for losses of 69 yards. He also deflected 17 passes, caused a fumble and recovered another. His 341 tackles rank ninth on the school's all-time list.

ANALYSIS

I was pissed when they selected him. Exactly how many ****ing safeties do we need, Herm?

Coming out he wasn't rated much different than everybody's lover boy Rhodes. Sometimes it's good to take that shotgun approach to fill a spot and 4th/5th round picks aren't the end of the world to gamble on-pick two and end up with Rhodes seems like a good deal to me. He was by all accounts a terrific special teamer, possibly the best in the draft. Isn't he the guy Parcells "congratulated" us for taking? He looked bad in the '06 camp. Upside is that he seemed like he wasn't over the knee injury and didn't seem to be coping well with the brace, so maybe there is hope for improvement.

So, it was a good move for Herm to draft 10,000 safeties during his tenure just so we could find ONE Kerry Rhodes, all the while almost completely ignoring the offensive line?

Yep, that's how to build a contender.

I don't think it's a good move to draft tons of dbs, but drafting Rhodes and Maddox back to back was no big deal. The guy was a 5th round pick. I don't think you can complain if you think Rhodes is such a game breaker. Giants used to draft like that all the time. Personally I'd always draft OL first. DBs can usually assimilate easily so they are better to get as FAs. Then again I'm not in love with drafting qbs real early in the draft either.

i found these on youtube

highlights of andre in high school

highlights of andre in college

ENJOY

Two thoughts:

1. I hope Andre took some of his signing bonus money and bought his parents a new camcorder.

2. They started the intro: Maddux's Highlight.

That is really setting the bar kind of low. Only one highlight in four years of high school ball? No wonder Herm drafted him.

If Westhoff wanted him back for ST's I've got no problem with it.

But Max keep in mind that was a HS clip & it's not like there was a camera on the secondary on every play like in college/pro's. Keep things in perspective.

I mean the best video highlight your parents have from Max's High School Years was of you tackling the 1-lb bison burger at Fuddrucker's.
