Frerotte: Don't expect same ol' passing attack

DAVIE -- Coach Nick Saban still won't spill the beans on whether A.J. Feeley or Gus Frerotte will take the first snap of the preseason in Monday's exhibition game against Chicago in Canton, Ohio.

But regardless of which is under center, Frerotte believes the Dolphins' passing game will look nothing like the anemic attack fielded in recent seasons.

Asked how frequently he expects to throw downfield, Frerotte said, "A lot. A lot more than you guys are used to. Think back to when Dan [Marino] was in his prime and throwing the ball. That's what this offense does.

"I'm not saying it's going to be every play, but we are going to take advantage of situations. We are going to be unconventional and we're going to take advantage."

Frerotte, who spent the past two seasons with the Vikings working under new offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, compared Chris Chambers' potential in this offense to another standout wide receiver he used to throw to.

"We had an 84 there (Randy Moss), but we've got an 84 here who can do the same stuff," Frerotte said. "He's a special player."

Regardless of who starts against the Bears, Frerotte doesn't expect many snaps with four other exhibition games remaining.

Feeley is taking the competition in stride.

"I've said all along, with the quarterback competition, you almost approach the situation like a golf game," Feeley said. "You take care of your own."

Saban is in no rush to name a starter for the Sept. 11 opener against Denver.

"I am not naive enough to think it isn't important to both guys as competitors to become a starter at some point," Saban said. "We understand that, but we don't want that to be the focus right now."

MCINTOSH ADJUSTING

Despite being the only lineman to have played for new offensive line coach Hudson Houck, Damion McIntosh finds himself out of a starting job -- for now.

"I can't concern myself with it right now," said McIntosh, who started 14 games at left tackle for the Dolphins last season, but is behind Vernon Carey on the depth chart. "Whatever Coach wants to do, he'll do. I know I can play, I know I can play at a high level. I know I can still start."

For the first time in his six-year career, McIntosh is receiving time at right tackle, behind starter Stockar McDougle.

Nominee for most ridiculously absurd quote of the year:

Why is that such a stretch???

His been in a pitiful passing Offense his entire career, yet still manages to have good numbers... Imagine what the guy can do if someone actually gets the ball to him in stride...
