Knowshon Moreno's season is over.

Coach John Fox said today that Moreno will be placed on injured reserve after the running back tore his anterior cruciate ligament Sunday in Kansas City.

Moreno had rushed four times for 52 yards in the first quarter against the Chiefs, including runs of 24- and 22-yards before he was injured.

"I feel for him because he battled. He had that hamstring early in the season and battled back from that, and was getting back into the groove," Fox said. "He was having a really, really good day. It's unfortunate. But he's tough-minded, and will battle back from this."

The Broncos filled Moreno's spot on the roster by signing running back Jeremiah Johnson off the practice squad this

afternoon.

Johnson, 24, is a second-year player from the University of Oregon who has been the Broncos since the start of training camp. He was on the Broncos' active roster in Week 2 but did not have a carry.

"The upside with Jeremiah is he's been with us. He knows the nomenclature, he knows the teammates," Fox said. "He's given our defense a real good look and been helpful in getting us better against the run. Fox said starting running back Willis McGahee is "day to day" with a left hamstring injury suffered Sunday. McGahee could have returned to the game on an "emergency basis" but it was not necessary.

"He's a guy we'd like to have healthy Thursday night," Fox said.
