The Jets Have brought in former Texan DE/OLB – D.J. Bryant for a workout:

Bryant (6’3”, 248) was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent (5/14/12) out of James Madison University, 48 tackles, 13 for loss and 7 sacks in 2011 for the Dukes.   He had 4 tackles and 3 sacks during the preseason with the Texans but was released on August 31st.

The Jets may be looking at Bryant to improve their edge pass rush as LB Ricky Sapp had been injured during camp, not appearing in any preseason games, and is currently on the practice squad.

4 tackles and 3 sacks........I wonder why they didn't give him more of a chance

Wouldn't see much action, texans are stacked at the OLB position. They've got starts in Barwin and Reed, with Cushing sliding outside on certain downs and a very promising rookie in Whitney Mercilus. Don't know anything about the kid, but unless he was a world-beater in camp, he's not getting PT anytime soon over those guys.

As an aside, love what the texans have done with their defense over the years. Traded Demeco Ryans for decent picks when they found a cheaper version through the draft and let Mario Williams go when they found a stud in JJ Watt. Granted they didn't pull it together as a unit until Wade took them over, but they seem to find talent pretty well. It's just good business; unless that one player is the single lynchpin to your unit's success, you don't pay him like he is and they did just that with Williams. Hope it's a trend we continue to see.
