Oakland Raiders release Mike Brisiel

Guard Mike Brisiel signed a five-year, $20 million contract with Oakland in 2012. He's not going to see the final three years of that deal.

The Raiders announced they have released Brisiel, who was set to make $3.85 million in base salary. The move will save $1.38 million in salary cap space unless Brisiel is designated as a post-June 1 cut.

Brisiel started all 30 games he played over the last two seasons, but the Raiders indicated he would have to compete for playing time this year. And $4 million is too much for a guard not guaranteed to have a job. Perhaps the Raiders just needed a little more salary cap room to make their move for DeSean Jackson.

In the latest edition of the "Around The League Podcast" the guys do the news, open the mailbag and play "Win Wess' Toaster."

G is kind of an understated need, at least without knowing how they feel about last year's three draft additions today, so yes I expect some interest.

I always find it hilarious that this always counts as news. All NFL contracts are basically 1-2, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe 3 if they like you, year deals if you're merely good. If you're great then you better be ready to settle with restructuring years 3-6+ (g'luck getting to 6 if you're not a QB or pass rusher, position matters). Sh*t league.
