Mets signed shortstop Jose Reyes to a four-year, $23.25 million contract extension with an option for 2011.

Reyes gets a $1.5 million signing bonus, $2.5 million in 2007, $4 million in 2008, $5.75 million in 2009 and $9 million in 2010. The option year is worth $11 million and invludes a $500,000 buyout. Reyes would have been eligible for free agency after 2009.

That is a fair deal. Especially considering what a rocky start he got off to with injuries. I think it is a good compromise for both sides.

His agent is HORRIBLE. this deal isn't fair at all it avg's 5.5 million a year. he eligable for arbitration after this year and he'd probably make about 4 million. however he's get bumped up to 5 the next year and after that he's a FA where he'd command at least 8-9 million a year on the open market. he cost himself 2 years of making that money.

A steal for the Mets. A big time steal. The Mets bought out his next 2 arb. eligible years for 6.5 million, then 5.75 for the 3rd. Total earned for his 3 arb. seasons: 12.25 million. I have no doubt that if he will remain health for these 3 seasons, he would have won at the arb. table at least 20 million over the same 3 years.

Again, a great deal for the Mets. If they pull this one over Wright's head also, Omar is the GM of the decade.

Great move by the Mets, can't give em enough credit on this one. Locking up your young talent for the long term and saving some serious cash at the same time. Great move by the Mets FO, terrible move by Reyes' agent.
