Coles claims he's been lied to...

I think the implication is that if Coles were to play out his contract at a certian level that the organization would then compensate him for that, but I think Coles deep down knows that he is physically incapable of doing so anymore.

Coles is getting worn down and is looking for his last big pay day, at the expense of the Jets.

He knows at the rate of his decline that he will never garner the money he once did, now hes just trying to make sure he gets paid.

Let some other saps sign him long term and see what they get.

if that were the case then he DEFINITELY would have taken the guaranteed money for the next two years that the jets offered, he could get hurt tomorrow and still get paid for 2 years.

lol, ask Kendall if the original restructure the Jets asked him to agree to was to his advantage.

That's his doing, not the Jets. He made no sacrifice for the team in restructuring. He got more money than he would have made without restructuring. Most teams were up against or over the cap (like the Jets were). Kendall chose to take the sure money from the Jets. His alternative was getting released like Mawae & Fabini & seeing if anyone wanted to sign him for bigger money at age 33. He chose the sure money.

Whether it turned out to be to his advantage or not is irrelevant. He made that decision. Mangini &/or Tannenbaum may very well have made some empty promises, but it was hardly the only-for-the-good-of-the-team-sacrifice it's being made out to be in hindsight.
