bitonti
Why Mark Sanchez makes sense for the Jets at 17: - at 17 very well might be the best player available - legitimately, not accounting for need. - Sanchez comes from a pro offense - west coast offense - think back Schotty Jr., before the "favre only knows 10 plays" experiment, ran an WCO modified. - Sanchez is pro-ready, most of the lingo and plays from Carroll's offense are used all over the league. - Sanchez' accuracy is legendary, the Jets don't exactly have alot of big targets, any QB here is going to have to fit the ball through a very small window for the smallish WR. - Smart player will have his degree by May 15, very heady, very hard worker in the film room. - Sanchez' arm strength is underrated, much better than Leinart's. he doesn't have a cannon but he can make every throw. - in general his athleticism is underrated, scouts say he is the best USC QB physically since Palmer. - threw well at the combine, not amazing but also not scared to show his wares, didn't wait until pro day - the high level of media attention USC gets is similar to what a NYJ QB would have to face. there is no pro team in LA, he gets all the spotlight. - going against the USC defense first team in practice might be the toughest competition in all of NCAA. - purely marketing perspective how many Sanchez jerseys would they sell? He's like an icon in his community, could be a force of nature in NY market. after a muddy game The NY Post "dirty sanchez" headlines practically write themselves. - "worst case" if we do have a solution in Clemmy, Ratty or Ainge, having Sanchez creates a Quinn/Anderson or Rivers/Brees situation where the draft pick either wins the job or is used as trade bait. thoughts? The Troll
Two red flags: 1.) He's an underclassmen and 2.) He only started for one college season The list of QBs in the last ten years that have overcome ONE of those things to be a good pro is short. The list of QBs that have overcome BOTH may not exist.
