"When he was looking for a new HC, Parcells loved Rex but hired Sporano because he had a closer personal relationship but he contacted Mike T and told him he should give Rex a shot because he thought he was going to be a great coach".

You don't hire coaches based on a recommendation from someone not even on your payroll for a consultation basis. Non-story. If it happened, sure it may have been nice, but too much money is on the line to make a decision based on that.

We know tanny considers him a mentor so the story is probably true.. That being said .. There's 0% chance that parcrlls input was anything other then a minor data point.. I believe Rex was hired because he's the anti mangini and his defense just took apart pennington whom I'm sure was a source of great embaressment at the time
