BlakeSpenceBlockedPunt
I am truly enjoying Bowles' approach to setting the culture for the team and to how he sets expectations for each player he is asked about. His answers are very real. No hyperbole. No overselling or underselling. He talks about players having to earn what they get, regardless of experience or past performance. It looks like he believes in "merit" being the reason why people play. He talks about having to see what players "do" on the field before making a judgement. I find it very refreshing to listen to him. Herm was a preacher. Mangini was like mumbles. Rex was over the top. I'm happy to have a football coach that calls it like it is. Beerfish
Hopefully he bring some of that parcells snipe with him. I still remember seeing a feature on Parcells when it was his 1st day or so with Dallas and he goes into the work out room, looks around and says 'How come all of my running backs are fat!'....uh....I guess you had to be there.... There's nothing like "Parcellian sarcasm". Very few coaches have been able to duplicate that since he retired

JETSfaninNE
The Jets took Smith with the No. 39 pick in the 2013 draft. In two NFL seasons, he's thrown 25 touchdown passes and 34 interceptions. He's had some eye-opening games and many frustrating ones. Bowles knows the history and is looking forward to April, when he'll finally have a chance to work with Smith and talk to him. "There's a growth in each player in this league," Bowles said. "Coming in that young, coming out of college, all you want to see is the potential. And now you see the potential, and he has some good games and he has some bad games, and now there's got to be consistency. "What makes him have the bad game? What's he looking at? What's he thinking? Where's his head at? That's the hard part about the offseason and not being able to talk to your quarterback. You can't get into those things right now, and those are some of the things that I want to find out. You have seen potential in him, and he's only a second-year player, so you want to say there's hope for potential growth there and something to look forward to." I love his answers to these Geno questions. I'm pretty vocal in not believing in Geno but I'll gladly eat my share of crow if Bowles can turn this kid around and just seeing his approach to Geno above made me feel real good and really interested to see how things unfold for Geno this year. Ex-Rex
John McKay was pretty good with sarcasm also.. Like the time he was asked about his players execution and he said, "I'm all for it." I think the best thing that was said about the Maccagnan / Bowles combination is that adults are now in charge. Rex was an infant, Mangini was a wanna be and Herm kinda WAS like a minister, preaching to the choir.
