The AFC South should be revoked of their playoff privilege this season.

After approximately 5 fans were treated to last night's snoozefest between Jacksonville and Tennessee, these are the standings in the AFC South:

1.  Colts  4-5 (- 27 Net points)

Texans 4-5  (- 27)

3.  Jaguars 4-6 (- 57)

4.  Titans 2-8 (- 51)

If your division can't field one truly competitive football team, your division doesn't deserve a playoff team, let alone one that receives a home playoff game.

In 2008 the Pats missed the playoffs with a 11-5 record Sh_t happens.. Bowles 1st year with Cards missed with a 10-6 record yet the Giants won 2 Bowls with 9-7 and 10-6 records..

NFC east too

I hate all the teams in the NFC East, but that division is a lot better than the AFC South:

1.  Giants  5-5  (+ 20 net points)

2.  Redskins 4-5 (- 4)

3.  Eagles  4-5 (+ 28)

4.  Cowboys  2-7 (- 48)

Add up the net points, and the NFC East is at - 4 overall, making them a slightly below average division.  The AFC South is at - 162.  Completely non-competitive division.

The Colts, who despite Luck's injury remain the current favorites to win the division with their 3-0 AFC South record, are 1-5 outside of the division.

So true.  System is flawed.  AFC south has a bunch of paper airplanes in the division and we got that damn Deathstar to contend with.  Yeah thats fair.

At the very least, the division winner there should be forced to hit the road for Pittsburgh or whoever the top Wild Card teams end up being.  Not that it matters much from a W/L perspective, as I expect the Colts/Texans/Jaguars to get smashed in their playoff appearance.  But it takes away from a team that deserves to play a playoff game in front of their own fans.  It also undeservedly puts money in their pockets they didn't deserve.

Here's how the divisions rank when you use net points as the ranking system:

1.  AFC East (+ 157 net points)

2.  NFC West (+ 23)

3.  AFC West (+ 13)

NFC South (+ 13)

5.  AFC North (+ 11)

6.  NFC East (- 4)

7.  NFC North (- 51)

8.  AFC South (- 162)

Not a good example.

One team in the AFCE is responsible for 134 of the 157 net points.

Skews the numbers.

Despite each already facing the cheating Patriots once this season, the Jets are + 33 and the Bills are + 24.  They've both put together above average seasons independent of what the Pats are doing.  Only the Dolphins (- 34) are playing bad football this year.   But that's nothing compared to the anchor the 49ers (- 97) have been to the NFC West this season.  The AFC East's worst team is stronger than the worst team in every other division.

Yeah, I know.  Cool story bro and Strength of schedule doesn't matter in the NFL.  Doesn't make the AFC South any less annoying.

Sure it's annoying, but it will never change.

The NFL has put a premium on teams winning the division and thus, rewarded with a home playoff game.

Doesn't matter if you win the division with a 14-2 record or a 7-9 record. You still get that home playoff game.

Never?  They've made many rule changes we never thought would happen.  Most of them stupid.  Every once in a while they make a good change.  This could be one of them that eventually happens.

Different seeding scenarios have been brought up (including seeding by overall record) at the owners meeting before.

The owners always shoot it down before it even goes to a vote. If it ever gets that far, do you think 24 owners would vote for the change?

I don't see that ever happening.

If the Jaguars win their division then beat the Steelers in a close game, I could see it.  Only so many influential owners who need to get screwed by the system before something happens.

why would that be bad?  this stuff is cyclical.  In 2010 Seattle won the NFC West w/ a 7-9 record, 2 years later that was the toughest division in football.  if jax wins their div and faces Pitt do the Steelers not have a chance to win?  if they are better that day they will win just like every other playoff game.
