Could Jets replace Chris Ivory with DeMarco Murray in 2016 ? ? ?

This happened last year as well with Powell, where late in the season he looked like he was fired out of a cannon but all season long up to that point he looked like meh (if not worse than meh). Hard to say if he's worth bringing back since it's unknown what he'd be asking. He's not getting zero on this 1 year deal ($2M), but if the team looks to draft someone instead of bringing Ivory back I think he becomes a priority just for the pass protection (and insurance in case they don't get their man in the draft).

yeah, he has played well but RBs break down easily. Total credit to him but I just don't see him being able to sustain as a disruptive force an entire season with a larger sample size.  Stephen hill had a 2 TD game once, not comparing the two except to say any skill player in NFL is capable of popping off in a game. Would like to see Powell do it when teams focus on stopping him, much tougher.

there's actually quite a few decent free agent RB's available this offseason... doug martin, matt forte, lamar miller, alf morris, CJ anderson, khiry robinson, I'd be happy with any of those guys if we can't sign ivory for the right price. miller especially could be a steal... he's a talented player and I think he could do a lot more if he got away from the dumpster fire in miami, plus he's still only 24 so there should be a lot of tread left on the tires

Well, its funny what a year can do. 365 days ago Murray was the most dominate RB in the game not named Peterson and Chip was a genius.

Either way, I would rather take my chances with a guy who's already proved himself.

I Think ya got that mixed up, Murry Played for the Cowboys last year this was his first year in an Eagles Uniform.

If anyone screwed up royally it was Jerry Jackass Jones messing with a very explosive part of his offense. Just think if they don't get rid of Murray maybe they run the ball that much more and it very well might have changed the whole dynamic of the Cowboys misfortune . Romo and Dez got hurt maybe things turn out different handing the ball off to Murray early in the season. of course you can't use that as an excuse but no matter how you spin it Jerry Jones F'ed up bigtime as did Chip Kelly thinking Murray was as east west type running back which he isnt

good points they are all young except Forte.... I would not mind Doug Martin or Lamar Miller both would turn this offense into a top five unit if we can add 1 OL and a TE as well and that's not that much ...Save the draft for 8 LB's and another big WR Ill be happy lol.

He was hurt and dealing with nagging leg injuries early in both seasons . if this Powell we are looking at now is in the RB mix hes not going to command a large salary unless another team steps in and makes a stupid offer.

I dont have it mixed up. Last year Chip was a genius and this year he's an idiot. He was the eagles coach last year right? Im not saying that Murray is trash, im saying that the man has been injured for most of his career, he had a breakout year during a contract year with the best O-line in the league by far, and the moment he got a new contract he suddenly doesnt "fit".

Now maybe him not fitting in the system is accurate, but the point still remains that the man hasnt been worth the contract in a new system. Do I know if Murray will work in the Jets system? No. Do you? No. Now do we both know if Ivory could be successful in this system? Yes. How? Look at what he's currently doing in the system.

No Way! He is a locker room risk, and we simply don't need a running back like him who wants to get paid. In 2015 no team needs a high priced running back anymore, just get a great o line in place and run the ball by committee. Our #1 priority this off season is improving the o-line, it's our most glaring weakness to me when we face good pass rushes and d-lines. Get a great o line in place, and virtually any RB worthy of starting can easily get over 1,000 yards a season at least.

Everybody says this, but we have a committee.  It doesn't always work.  Ivory has been very good and Powell has been great for 1/2 a season.  OTOH, Ridley and Stacy have blown donkeys all year and Powell sucked from week 1 for quite some time.  Going into this season, all those guys were legit NFL backs that should be viable in a RBBC, but they haven't all even had moderate success.

— Even Chris Ivory was at a loss to explain why he was mostly a bystander in the Jets’ offensive game plan on Sunday.

On a frigid, blustery day at Ralph Wilson Stadium seemingly perfect for Ivory’s power-running style, the Jets mysteriously left their leading rusher chained to the sideline for much of an agonizing, 22-17 loss to the Bills that eliminated Gang Green from playoff contention.Ivory didn’t leave the bench at all in the first quarter and ended up carrying just six times for 81 yards as Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey decided to ride the little-used Stevan Ridley instead with third-down ace Bilal Powell inactive due to an ankle injury.Ivory had been limited in practice all week by a knee injury, but he insisted afterward it wasn’t bad enough to keep him on the bench.

“I was still a little shaky, but I’m a strong man,” Ivory told The Post as he stood in the funeral-like Jets locker room. “I know how to play with pain. I was in a little pain, but I could have played more.”

The Jets ended up rushing for 122 yards on 17 carries (a 7.2-yard average), but 58 of those yards came in the second quarter on Ivory’s first rush of the game. That big play to the Buffalo 22-yard line also went for naught when Randy Bullock ended the drive by missing a 40-yard field goal try.Ivory went over 1,000 rushing yards in a season for the first time in his six-year career on that carry, but quickly disappeared again.Ridley finished with just 29 yards on nine carries in by far his most extensive action of the season, while Ivory’s six attempts were his fewest all year.“Curious” doesn’t begin to describe it, and the situation was made no clearer by coach Todd Bowles’ cryptic comments afterward.

“It was game-plan related,” Bowles said. “We tried to give him a break a little bit, too. He wasn’t 100 percent, but he was good enough to play. We could have got him more plays in there, but the game didn’t dictate that way.”

Ivory didn’t ask why he was made such a bit player — “You don’t ask that [during a game],” he said — and tried to remain diplomatic about it in the face of repeated questions.“It was just the game plan that we had coming in,” Ivory said. “That’s just how it played out. We didn’t have Bilal this game, and I just took over that role.”Ridley carried six times for 15 yards in the first quarter with Ivory on the sideline as the Jets punted on each of their first four possessions. Yet Ivory said he wasn’t upset about his role because “what Ridley was doing at first was working.”

“As long as we’re making positive plays out of what we’re doing, that’s fine,” Ivory said. “The carries at that point don’t even matter.”

Ivory added he thought Ridley deserved the bigger workload after getting the most practice time during the week.“Ridley put in a lot of work,” Ivory said. “He had the reps and was able to see it. Being that he had the reps and was healthy, that was one of the reasons for what happened.”
